    तापसेष्वेव विप्रेषु यात्रिकं भैक्षमाहरेत् । गृहमेधिषु चान्येषु द्विजेषु वनवासिषु ॥ २७ ॥tApaseSveva vipreSu yAtrikaM bhaikSamAharet । gRhamedhiSu cAnyeSu dvijeSu vanavAsiSu ॥ 27 ॥From Brahmanas (who live as) ascetics, let him receive alms, (barely sufficient) to support life, or from other householders of the twice-born (castes) who reside in the forest.

    वसीत चर्म चीरं वा सायं स्नायात् प्रगे तथा । जटाश्च बिभृयान्नित्यं श्मश्रुलोमनखानि च ॥ ६ ॥vasIta carma cIraM vA sAyaM snAyAt prage tathA । jaTAzca bibhRyAnnityaM zmazrulomanakhAni ca ॥ 6 ॥Let him wear a skin or a tattered garment; let him bathe in the evening or in the morning; and let him always wear (his hair in) braids, the hair on his body, his beard, and his nails (being unclipped).

    मङ्गलार्थं स्वस्त्ययनं यज्ञश्चासां प्रजापतेः । प्रयुज्यते विवाहे तु प्रदानं स्वाम्यकारणम् ॥ १५२ ॥maGgalArthaM svastyayanaM yajJazcAsAM prajApateH । prayujyate vivAhe tu pradAnaM svAmyakAraNam ॥ 152 ॥For the sake of procuring good fortune to (brides), the recitation of benedictory texts (svastyayana), and the sacrifice to the Lord of creatures (Pragapati) are used at weddings; (but) the betrothal (by the father or guardian) is the cause of (the husband’s) dominion (over his wife).

    यस्मै दद्यात् पिता त्वेनां भ्राता वाऽनुमते पितुः । तं शुश्रूषेत जीवन्तं संस्थितं च न लङ्घयेत् ॥ १५१ ॥yasmai dadyAt pitA tvenAM bhrAtA vA'numate pituH । taM zuzrUSeta jIvantaM saMsthitaM ca na laGghayet ॥ 151 ॥Him to whom her father may give her, or her brother with the father’s permission, she shall obey as long as he lives, and when he is dead, she must not insult (his memory).

    प्रोक्षणात् तृणकाष्ठं च पलालं चैव शुध्यति । मार्जनौपाञ्जनैर्वेश्म पुनःपाकेन मृण्मयम् ॥ १२२ ॥prokSaNAt tRNakASThaM ca palAlaM caiva zudhyati । mArjanaupAJjanairvezma punaHpAkena mRNmayam ॥ 122 ॥Grass, wood, and straw become pure by being sprinkled (with water), a house by sweeping and smearing (it with cowdung or whitewash), an earthen (vessel) by a second burning.

    क्षौमवत्शङ्खशृङ्गाणामस्थिदन्तमयस्य च । शुद्धिर्विजानता कार्या गोमूत्रेणौदकेन वा ॥ १२१ ॥kSaumavatzaGkhazRGgANAmasthidantamayasya ca । zuddhirvijAnatA kAryA gomUtreNaudakena vA ॥ 121 ॥A man who knows (the law) must purify conch-shells, horn, bone and ivory, like linen cloth, or with a mixture of cow’s urine and water.

    कौशेयाविकयोरूषैः कुतपानामरिष्टकैः । श्रीफलैरंशुपट्टानां क्षौमाणां गौरसर्षपैः ॥ १२० ॥kauzeyAvikayorUSaiH kutapAnAmariSTakaiH । zrIphalairaMzupaTTAnAM kSaumANAM gaurasarSapaiH ॥ 120 ॥Silk and woollen stuffs with alkaline earth; blankets with pounded Arishta (fruit); Amsupattas with Bel fruit; linen cloth with (a paste of) yellow mustard.

    [ष] तांस तवं लॊकान परतिपद्यस्व राजन; मया दत्तान यदि नेष्टः करयस ते न चाहं तान परतिपत्स्येह दत्त्वा; यत्र गत्वा तवम उपास्से ह लॊकान ॥ १-८८-८ ॥[Sa] tAMsa tavaM lòkAna paratipadyasva rAjana; mayA dattAna yadi neSTaH karayasa te na cAhaM tAna paratipatsyeha dattvA; yatra gatvA tavama upAsse ha lòkAna ॥ 1-88-8 ॥'Sivi continued, "If you consider it inappropriate to acquire them through purchase, I offer them to you freely. Accept them all, O king! As for me, I shall never seek those realms where the wise remain undisturbed."' ॥ 1-88-8 ॥
