    तं महर्षिगणैर्जुष्टं सुपर्णकृतलक्षणम् । नाम्ना सुभद्रं न्यग्रोधं ददर्श धनदानुजः ॥ ३-३५-३६taM maharSigaNairjuSTaM suparNakRtalakSaNam । nAmnA subhadraM nyagrodhaM dadarza dhanadAnujaH ॥ 3-35-36Ravana, the younger brother of Kubera, beheld that banyan tree called Subhadra, which was a favoured resort of the sages bearing the ensignia of Garuda. ॥ 3-35-36॥

    निषादविषयं हत्वा शाखया पतगोत्तमः । प्रहर्षमतुलं लेभे मोक्षयित्वा महामुनीन् ॥ ३-३५-३३niSAdaviSayaM hatvA zAkhayA patagottamaH । praharSamatulaM lebhe mokSayitvA mahAmunIn ॥ 3-35-33The best among the birds ( Garuda ) with the branch of the tree, destroyed the settlement of the demons. Over the destruction of the demons and deliverance of the great seers he felt immeasurable happiness. ॥ 3-35-33॥

    जगामादाय वेगेन तौ चोभौ गजकच्छपौ । एकपादेन धर्मात्मा भक्षयित्वा तदामिषम् ॥ ३-३५-३२jagAmAdAya vegena tau cobhau gajakacchapau । ekapAdena dharmAtmA bhakSayitvA tadAmiSam ॥ 3-35-32- carried away that long branch along with the elephant and the tortoise with great speed. The righteous one ( Garuda ) stood on one foot and ate the flesh (of elephant and tortoise). ॥ 3-35-32॥

Out of compassion for the (endangered) seers Garuda upto hundred yojana - ॥ 3-35-31॥

    अनूपं सिन्धुराजस्य ददर्श त्रिदिवोपमम् । तत्रापश्यत्स मेघाभं न्यग्रोधमृषिभिर्वृतम् ॥ ३-३५-२७anUpaM sindhurAjasya dadarza tridivopamam । tatrApazyatsa meghAbhaM nyagrodhamRSibhirvRtam ॥ 3-35-27- flooded with the backwaters of the sea, a veritable heaven, he ( Raavana ) observed. There he saw a banyan tree looking like a cloud and providing shelter to the sages. ॥ 3-35-27॥
