ततॊ ऽनवशासच चतुरः सदश्वान; पुत्रॊ विराटस्य हिरण्यकक्ष्यान ते तद वयतीयुर धवजिनाम अनीकं; शवेता वहन्तॊ ऽरजुनम आजिमध्यात ॥ ४-६१-१६ ॥
'Then the son of Virata urged his four splendid steeds, their flanks adorned with golden harnesses. Spurred onward, the white steeds carried Arjuna away from the midst of the battlefield and beyond the ranks of the infantry bearing their standards.' ॥ 4-61-16 ॥
english translation
tatò 'navazAsaca caturaH sadazvAna; putrò virATasya hiraNyakakSyAna te tada vayatIyura dhavajinAma anIkaM; zavetA vahantò 'rajunama AjimadhyAta ॥ 4-61-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतथा तु यान्तं पुरुषप्रवीरं; भीष्मः शरैर अभ्यहनत तरस्वी स चापि भीष्मस्य हयान निहत्य; विव्याध पार्श्वे दशभिः पृषत्कैः ॥ ४-६१-१७ ॥
'Seeing this, Bhishma, beholding that foremost of men retreating, showered him with arrows. And Partha, having slain Bhishma’s steeds, pierced him with ten shafts.' ॥ 4-61-17 ॥

tathA tu yAntaM puruSapravIraM; bhISmaH zaraira abhyahanata tarasvI sa cApi bhISmasya hayAna nihatya; vivyAdha pArzve dazabhiH pRSatkaiH ॥ 4-61-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ ऽरजुनॊ भीष्मम अपास्य युद्धे; विद्ध्वास्य यन्तारम अरिष्टधन्वा तस्थौ विमुक्तॊ रथवृन्दमध्याद; राहुं विदार्येव सहस्ररश्मिः ॥ ४-६१-१८ ॥
'Leaving Bhishma on the battlefield, and having first slain his charioteer, Arjuna, bow in hand, emerged from the midst of that multitude of cars like the sun breaking through dense clouds.' ॥ 4-61-18 ॥

tatò 'rajunò bhISmama apAsya yuddhe; viddhvAsya yantArama ariSTadhanvA tasthau vimuktò rathavRndamadhyAda; rAhuM vidAryeva sahasrarazmiH ॥ 4-61-18 ॥

'And Dhritarashtra’s son, the foremost of the Kurus, having regained his senses, beheld the son of Pritha standing alone on the battlefield, resplendent like the lord of the celestials. Hastily, he addressed Bhishma, saying—' ॥ 4-61-19 ॥

raNAda vimuktaM sathitama ekama Ajau; sa dhArtarASTrasa tavaritò babhASe ॥ 4-61-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअयं कथं सविद भवतां विमुक्तस; तं वै परबध्नीत यथा न मुच्येत तम अब्रवीच छांतनवः परहस्य; कव ते गता बुद्धिर अभूत कव वीर्यम ॥ ४-६१-२० ॥
'How hath this one escaped from thy grasp? Deal with him so that he may not slip away again.' ॥ 4-61-20 ॥
english translation
ayaM kathaM savida bhavatAM vimuktasa; taM vai parabadhnIta yathA na mucyeta tama abravIca chAMtanavaH parahasya; kava te gatA buddhira abhUta kava vIryama ॥ 4-61-20 ॥
