शान्तिं पराश्वस्य यथा सथितॊ ऽभूर; उत्सृज्य बाणांश च धनुश च चित्रम न तव एव बीभत्सुर अलं नृशंसं; कर्तुं न पापे ऽसय मनॊ निविष्टम ॥ ४-६१-२१ ॥

sanskrit

'Then the son of Santanu, smiling, addressed him, ‘Where was this sense of thine, and where was thy prowess, when thou wast rendered unconscious, renouncing thy arrows and well-strung bow? Know this—Vibhatsu is not given to committing cruel deeds, nor is his mind disposed to sin.’' ॥ 4-61-21 ॥

'He renounces not his principles, even for the sake of the three worlds. It is for this very reason that all of us have not perished in this battle. O foremost of Kuru heroes, return to the city of the Kurus, and allow Partha to depart, having accomplished the conquest of the kine. Never foolishly abandon your own welfare; indeed, one should always pursue that which leads to lasting benefit.' ॥ 4-61-22 ॥
