पराजापत्यं तथैवैन्द्रम आग्नेयं च सुदारुणम वौबेरं वारुणं चैव याम्य वायव्यम एव च परयुञ्जानौ महात्मानौ समरे तौ विचेरतुः ॥ ४-५९-२१ ॥
'And those illustrious warriors ranged across the field of battle, wielding celestial weapons obtained from Prajāpati and Indra, from Agni and the fierce Rudra, from Kuvera, Varuṇa, Yama, and Vāyu.' ॥ 4-59-21 ॥
english translation
parAjApatyaM tathaivaindrama AgneyaM ca sudAruNama vauberaM vAruNaM caiva yAmya vAyavyama eva ca parayuJjAnau mahAtmAnau samare tau viceratuH ॥ 4-59-21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविस्मितान्य अथ भूतानि तौ दृष्ट्वा संयुगे तदा साधु पार्थ महाबाहॊ साधु बीष्मेति चाब्रुवन ॥ ४-५९-२२ ॥
'And all beings were filled with wonder as they beheld those warriors locked in combat. They cried aloud, ‘Bravo, Pārtha of mighty arms! Bravo, Bhīṣma!’' ॥ 4-59-22 ॥
english translation
vismitAnya atha bhUtAni tau dRSTvA saMyuge tadA sAdhu pArtha mahAbAhò sAdhu bISmeti cAbruvana ॥ 4-59-22 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनेदं युक्तं मनुष्येषु यॊ ऽयं संदृश्यते महान महास्त्राणां संप्रयॊगः समरे भीष्मपार्थयॊः ॥ ४-५९-२३ ॥
'For this display of celestial weapons, witnessed in the encounter between Bhīṣma and Pārtha, is a sight rare indeed among human beings.' ॥ 4-59-23 ॥
english translation
nedaM yuktaM manuSyeSu yò 'yaM saMdRzyate mahAna mahAstrANAM saMprayògaH samare bhISmapArthayòH ॥ 4-59-23 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवं सर्वास्त्रविदुषॊर अस्त्रयुद्धम अवर्तत अथ जिष्णुर उपावृत्य पृथु धारेण कार्मुकम चकर्त भीष्मस्य तदा जातरूपपरिष्कृतम ॥ ४-५९-२४ ॥
'Thus raged that conflict of celestial weapons between those warriors versed in every weapon. And when that clash of divine arms came to an end, there began a battle with arrows. Then Jishnu, advancing upon his foe, with a razor-edged shaft cut down the gold-adorned bow of Bhīṣma.' ॥ 4-59-24 ॥

evaM sarvAstraviduSòra astrayuddhama avartata atha jiSNura upAvRtya pRthu dhAreNa kArmukama cakarta bhISmasya tadA jAtarUpapariSkRtama ॥ 4-59-24 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनिमेषान्तरमात्रेण भीष्मॊ ऽनयत कार्मुकं रणे समादाय महाबाहुः स जयं चक्रे महाबलः शरांश च सुबहून करुद्धॊ मुमॊचाशु धनंजये ॥ ४-५९-२५ ॥
'But in the twinkling of an eye, Bhīṣma, that mighty-armed and illustrious car-warrior, seized another bow and strung it. Inflamed with wrath, Bhīṣma poured down upon Dhanañjaya a torrent of arrows.' ॥ 4-59-25 ॥

nimeSAntaramAtreNa bhISmò 'nayata kArmukaM raNe samAdAya mahAbAhuH sa jayaM cakre mahAbalaH zarAMza ca subahUna karuddhò mumòcAzu dhanaMjaye ॥ 4-59-25 ॥
