वित्रासयित्वा तत सैन्यं दरावयित्वा महारथान अर्जुनॊ जयतां शरेष्ठः पर्यवर्तत भारत ॥ ४-५७-१६ ॥
'And, O Bharata, having filled that army with terror and routed the mighty chariot-warriors, the foremost of victors ranged triumphantly across the field.' ॥ 4-57-16 ॥
english translation
परावर्तयन नदीं घॊरां शॊणितौघतरङ्गिणीम अस्थि शैवलसंबाधां युगान्ते कालनिर्मिताम ॥ ४-५७-१७ ॥
'Turning back the terrible river with waves of blood torrents, obstructed by bones like water-weeds, created by Time at the end of an age.' ॥ 4-57-17 ॥

शरचाप पलवां घॊरां मांसशॊणितकर्दमाम महारथमहाद्वीपां शङ्खदुन्दुभिनिस्वनाम चकार महतीं पार्थॊ नदीम उत्तरशॊणिताम ॥ ४-५७-१८ ॥
'Partha created a great river of the northern blood-flow, terrible with arrows and bows as floating debris, with mud of flesh and blood, with great warriors as great islands, resounding with conches and war-drums.' ॥ 4-57-18 ॥

आददानस्य हि शरान संधाय च विमुञ्चतः विकर्षतश च गाण्डीवं न किं चिद दृश्यते ऽनतरम ॥ ४-५७-१९ ॥
'The river of blood that Partha created was impassable. So swift and skilled was Arjuna that spectators could perceive no interval between his grasping an arrow, nocking it upon the bowstring, and loosing it with a sweep of the Gandiva.' ॥ 4-57-19 ॥
