तथा संनहनान्य एषां परिमुच्य समन्ततः अपश्यद गाण्डिवं तत्र चतुर्भिर अपरैः सह ।। ४-३८-१६ ।।

'Then, cutting away the wrappings and untying the cords with which they were secured, the prince caught sight of the Gāṇḍīva bow, along with four others.' ।। 4-38-16 ।।

tathA saMnahanAnya eSAM parimucya samantataH apazyada gANDivaM tatra caturbhira aparaiH saha || 4-38-16 ||

तेषां विमुच्यमानानां धनुर आम अर्कवर्चसाम विनिश्रेरुः परभा दिव्या गरहाणाम उदयेष्व इव ।। ४-३८-१७ ।।

'As the bows lay together, their radiance—bright as the sun—shone forth with dazzling brilliance, like the rising of planets at dawn.' ।। 4-38-17 ।।

teSAM vimucyamAnAnAM dhanura Ama arkavarcasAma vinizreruH parabhA divyA garahANAma udayeSva iva || 4-38-17 ||

  स तेषां रूपम आलॊक्य भॊगिनाम इव जृम्भताम हृष्टरॊमा भयॊद्विग्नः कषणेन समपद्यत ।। ४-३८-१८ ।।

'And when he beheld the forms of those mighty bows, curved like hissing serpents, a sudden fear seized him, and the hairs of his body stood on end.' ।। 4-38-18 ।।

  संस्पृश्य तानि चापानि भानुमन्ति बृहन्ति च वैराटिर अर्जुनं राजन्न इदं वचनम अब्रवीत ।। ४-३८-१९ ।।

'Touching those large, resplendent weapons, the son of Virāṭa, O king, turned to Arjuna and spoke!' ।। 4-38-19 ।।

  saMspRzya tAni cApAni bhAnumanti bRhanti ca vairATira arjunaM rAjanna idaM vacanama abravIta || 4-38-19 ||

  [उत्तर] बिन्दवॊ जातरूपस्य शतं यस्मिन निपातिताः सहस्रकॊटि सौवर्णाः कस्यैतद धनुर उत्तमम ।। ४-३८-२० ।।

'Uttara said: “To what renowned warrior does this glorious bow belong— inlaid with a hundred golden bosses, its ends gleaming with radiant light?"' ।। 4-38-20 ।।

  [uttara] bindavò jAtarUpasya zataM yasmina nipAtitAH sahasrakòTi sauvarNAH kasyaitada dhanura uttamama || 4-38-20 ||
