[वै] एवमादीनि वाक्यानि विलपन्तम अचेतसम परहस्य पुरुषव्याघ्रॊ रथस्यान्तिकम आनयत ॥ ४-३६-४१ ॥

'Vaisampayana continued: "Thus addressed, that tiger among men laughed aloud and dragged Uttara—who was nearly senseless and wailing piteously—back to the chariot."' ॥ 4-36-41 ॥

[vai] evamAdIni vAkyAni vilapantama acetasama parahasya puruSavyAghrò rathasyAntikama Anayata ॥ 4-36-41 ॥

अथैनम अब्रवीत पार्थॊ भयार्तं नष्टचेतसम यदि नॊत्सहसे यॊद्धुं शत्रुभिः शत्रुकर्शन एहि मे तवं हयान यच्छ युध्यमानस्य शत्रुभिः ॥ ४-३६-४२ ॥

'And the son of Pritha then addressed the terrified prince, who had nearly lost his senses, saying: "If thou dost not dare to face the enemy, O subduer of foes, then come—take up the reins of the steeds while I engage in battle."' ॥ 4-36-42 ॥

athainama abravIta pArthò bhayArtaM naSTacetasama yadi nòtsahase yòddhuM zatrubhiH zatrukarzana ehi me tavaM hayAna yaccha yudhyamAnasya zatrubhiH ॥ 4-36-42 ॥

परयाह्य एतद रथानीकं मद्बाहुबलरक्षितः अप्रधृष्यतमं घॊरं गुप्तं वीरैर महारथैः ॥ ४-३६-४३ ॥

'Protected by the strength of my arms, drive thou the chariot into that fearsome and impregnable array of warriors—guarded by mighty and heroic fighters.' ॥ 4-36-43 ॥

parayAhya etada rathAnIkaM madbAhubalarakSitaH apradhRSyatamaM ghòraM guptaM vIraira mahArathaiH ॥ 4-36-43 ॥

मा भैस तवं राजपुत्राग्र्य कषत्रियॊ ऽसि परंतप अहं वै कुरुभिर यॊत्स्याम्य अवजेष्यामि ते पशून ॥ ४-३६-४४ ॥

'Do not fear, O foremost among princes! You are a Kshatriya, O chastiser of foes. I shall battle with the Kurus and bring back your cattle in triumph.' ॥ 4-36-44 ॥

mA bhaisa tavaM rAjaputrAgrya kaSatriyò 'si paraMtapa ahaM vai kurubhira yòtsyAmya avajeSyAmi te pazUna ॥ 4-36-44 ॥

परविश्यैतद रथानीकम अप्रधृष्यं दुरासदम यन्ता भूस तवं नरश्रेष्ठ यॊत्स्ये ऽहं कुरुभिः सह ॥ ४-३६-४५ ॥

'Why dost thou falter, O tiger among men, here in the midst of the foe? I shall indeed fight with the Kurus and win back the kine, even by piercing through this formidable and unassailable array of chariots. Be thou my charioteer, O best of men—I shall take on the Kurus in battle.' ॥ 4-36-45 ॥
