लक्षयित्वा तरिगर्तानां तौ परविष्टौ रथव्रजम जग्मतुः सूर्यदत्तश च मदिराश्वश च पृष्ठतः ।। ४-३१-१६ ।।

'And marking the spot where the Trigarta chariot divisions were massed in strength, those valiant warriors directed their assault toward it.' ।। 4-31-16 ।।

lakSayitvA tarigartAnAM tau paraviSTau rathavrajama jagmatuH sUryadattaza ca madirAzvaza ca pRSThataH || 4-31-16 ||

विराटस तत्र संग्रामे हत्वा पञ्चशतान रथान हयानां च शतान्य अत्र हत्वा पञ्च महारथान ।। ४-३१-१७ ।।

'Then the foremost of chariot-fighters, King Virata himself, advanced—Suryadatta leading the front, and Madirākṣa guarding the rear. In that fierce encounter, he destroyed five hundred chariots, eight hundred horses, and five mighty chariot-warriors.' ।। 4-31-17 ।।

virATasa tatra saMgrAme hatvA paJcazatAna rathAna hayAnAM ca zatAnya atra hatvA paJca mahArathAna || 4-31-17 ||

चरन स विविधान मार्गान रथेषु रथयूथपः तरिगर्तानां सुशर्माणम आर्च्छद रुक्मरथं रणे ।। ४-३१-१८ ।।

'Upon the battlefield, he displayed masterful skill, executing swift and varied manoeuvres upon his chariot with the prowess of a seasoned hero. And at last the king came upon the ruler of the Trigartas mounted on a golden chariot.' ।। 4-31-18 ।।

तौ वयावहरतां तत्र महात्मानौ महाबलौ अन्यॊन्यम अभिगर्जन्तौ गॊष्ठे गॊवृषभाव इव ।। ४-३१-१९ ।।

'And those high-souled and mighty warriors, eager for battle, charged upon each other with roars like those of two furious bulls in a cattle-pen.' ।। 4-31-19 ।।

ततॊ रथाभ्यां रथिनौ वयतियाय समन्ततः शरान वयसृजतां शीघ्रं तॊयधारा घनाव इव ।। ४-३१-२० ।।

'Then Susarman, that bull among men and an irrepressible warrior in battle, the king of the Trigartas, challenged the king of the Matsyas to single combat on chariots. Fired with fury, both warriors charged at each other in their cars and began to rain arrows like storm-clouds pouring down torrents of rain.' ।। 4-31-20 ।।
