[वै] अथाब्रवीन महावीर्यॊ दरॊणस तत्त्वार्थ दर्शिवान न तादृशा विनश्यन्ति नापि यान्ति पराभवम ॥ ४-२६-१ ॥

'Vaiśampāyana said: "Endowed with great energy and deep discernment, Droṇa then spoke: 'Men like the sons of Pāṇḍu do not perish, nor do they suffer defeat.'"' ॥ 4-26-1 ॥

[vai] athAbravIna mahAvIryò daròNasa tattvArtha darzivAna na tAdRzA vinazyanti nApi yAnti parAbhavama ॥ 4-26-1 ॥

शूराश च कृतविद्याश च बुद्धिमन्तॊ जितेन्द्रियाः धर्मज्ञाश च कृतज्ञाश च धर्मराजम अनुव्रताः ॥ ४-२६-२ ॥

'Brave and skilled in every branch of knowledge, intelligent, with their senses under control—virtuous, grateful, and obedient to their noble brother Yudhishṭhira—they follow him devotedly.' ॥ 4-26-2 ॥

zUrAza ca kRtavidyAza ca buddhimantò jitendriyAH dharmajJAza ca kRtajJAza ca dharmarAjama anuvratAH ॥ 4-26-2 ॥

नीतिधर्मार्थतत्त्वज्ञं पितृवच च समाहितम धर्मे सथितं सत्यधृतिं जयेष्ठं जयेष्ठापचायिनम ॥ ४-२६-३ ॥

'He, their eldest, is well-versed in the principles of statecraft, virtue, and gain; he cherishes them like a father, stands firm in truth, and walks the path of righteousness without deviation.' ॥ 4-26-3 ॥

nItidharmArthatattvajJaM pitRvaca ca samAhitama dharme sathitaM satyadhRtiM jayeSThaM jayeSThApacAyinama ॥ 4-26-3 ॥

अनुव्रता महात्मानं भरातरं भरातरॊ नृप अजातशत्रुं हरीमन्तं तं च भरातॄन अनुव्रतम ॥ ४-२६-४ ॥

'Bound by such loyalty to so virtuous a leader—who, despite his royal station, does not harm anyone and in turn respects and obeys even his younger brothers—such men do not meet their end in misfortune.' ॥ 4-26-4 ॥

anuvratA mahAtmAnaM bharAtaraM bharAtarò nRpa ajAtazatruM harImantaM taM ca bharAtRRna anuvratama ॥ 4-26-4 ॥

तेषां तथाविधेयानां निभृतानां महात्मनाम किमर्थं नीतिमान पार्थः शरेयॊ नैषां करिष्यति ॥ ४-२६-५ ॥

'Why then should Yudhishthira, the son of Prithā—versed as he is in the principles of policy—not be able to restore the prosperity of his devoted, obedient, and high-souled brothers?' ॥ 4-26-5 ॥

teSAM tathAvidheyAnAM nibhRtAnAM mahAtmanAma kimarthaM nItimAna pArthaH zareyò naiSAM kariSyati ॥ 4-26-5 ॥
