सॊ ऽयम इन्द्राद अनवरॊ वासुदेवाच च भारत गाण्डीवधन्वा शवेताश्वॊ बीभत्सुः किं करिष्यति ॥ ४-२-१६ ॥
'And, O Bhārata, what duty shall be undertaken by Vibhatsu—Arjuna—the wielder of Gāṇḍīva, whose chariot is drawn by white steeds, and who is second to neither Indra nor Vāsudeva himself? What task shall such a hero now take upon himself?' ॥ 4-2-16 ॥
english translation
उषित्वा पञ्चवर्षाणि सहस्राक्षस्य वेश्मनि दिव्यान्य अस्त्राण्य अवाप्तानि देवरूपेण भास्वता ॥ ४-२-१७ ॥
'Arjuna, who dwelt for five years in the radiant abode of the thousand-eyed deity Indra, shining with celestial brilliance, there acquired through his own energy the science of superhuman warfare, along with all the divine weapons.' ॥ 4-2-17 ॥
english translation
यं मन्ये दवादशं रुद्रम आदित्यानां तरयॊदशम यस्य बाहू समौ दीर्घौ जया घातकठिन तवचौ दक्षिणे चैव सव्ये च गवाम इव वहः कृतः ॥ ४-२-१८ ॥
'He whom I regard as the tenth Rudra, the thirteenth Aditya, the ninth among the Vasus, and the tenth among the Grahas—whose long and symmetrical arms, hardened by the constant strikes of the bowstring, bear cicatrices like the calloused humps of bulls.' ॥ 4-2-18 ॥
english translation
हिमवान इव शैलानां समुद्रः सरिताम इव तरिदशानां यथा शक्रॊ वसूनाम इव हव्यवाः ॥ ४-२-१९ ॥
'That foremost of warriors—who is like Himavat among mountains, the ocean among expanses of water, Shakra among the celestials, Havya-vaha (Fire) among the Vasus—' ॥ 4-2-19 ॥
english translation
मृगाणाम इव शार्दूलॊ गरुडः पतताम इव वरः संनह्यमानानाम अर्जुनः किं करिष्यति ॥ ४-२-२० ॥
'Like the tiger among beasts, like Garuda among birds, he is the foremost among warriors when arms are being donned—what task will such an Arjuna undertake?' ॥ 4-2-20 ॥
