तथा शतसहस्राणि नृणाम अमिततेजसाम उपासते महाराजम इन्द्रप्रस्थे युधिष्ठिरम ॥ ४-१७-१६ ॥
'He—who at Indraprastha was revered by kings of matchless valor and might .' ॥ 4-17-16 ॥

tathA zatasahasrANi nRNAma amitatejasAma upAsate mahArAjama indraprasthe yudhiSThirama ॥ 4-17-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशतं दासी सहस्राणि यस्य नित्यं महानसे पात्री हस्तं दिवारात्रम अतिथीन भॊजयन्त्य उत ॥ ४-१७-१७ ॥
'In whose palace kitchen a hundred thousand maidservants, dishes in hand, served countless guests day and night.' ॥ 4-17-17 ॥

zataM dAsI sahasrANi yasya nityaM mahAnase pAtrI hastaM divArAtrama atithIna bhòjayantya uta ॥ 4-17-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएष निष्कसहस्राणि परदाय ददतां वरः दयूतजेन हय अनर्थेन महता समुपावृतः ॥ ४-१७-१८ ॥
'He—who gave away a thousand nishkas every single day in charity—alas, that very monarch, crushed by misery and defeated by the wretched game of dice, now sustains himself through that same ruinous play.' ॥ 4-17-18 ॥
english translation
eSa niSkasahasrANi paradAya dadatAM varaH dayUtajena haya anarthena mahatA samupAvRtaH ॥ 4-17-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएनं हि सवरसंपन्ना बहवः सूतमागधाः सायंप्रातर उपातिष्ठन सुमृष्टमणिकुण्डलाः ॥ ४-१७-१९ ॥
'Bards and encomiasts by the thousands, adorned with glittering gem-studded earrings and gifted with melodious voices, used to wait upon him morning and evening.' ॥ 4-17-19 ॥

enaM hi savarasaMpannA bahavaH sUtamAgadhAH sAyaMprAtara upAtiSThana sumRSTamaNikuNDalAH ॥ 4-17-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसहस्रम ऋषयॊ यस्य नित्यम आसन सभा सदः तपः शरुतॊपसंपन्नाः सर्वकामैर उपस्थिताः ॥ ४-१७-२० ॥
'Alas, that Yudhishthira—who was daily attended by a thousand sages, masters of the Vedas and fulfilled in every desire, as his honored courtiers.' ॥ 4-17-20 ॥
