कॊ हि राज्यं परित्यज्य सर्वस्वं चात्मना सह परव्रज्यायैव दीव्येत विना दुर्द्यूत देविनम ॥ ४-१७-११ ॥
'Who else but one maddened by gambling would stake his kingdom, his brothers, his very self, and me, his wife, and choose a life of exile in the forest?' ॥ 4-17-11 ॥
english translation
यदि निष्कसहस्रेण यच चान्यत सारवद धनम सायम्प्रातर अदेविष्यद अपि संवत्सरान बहून ॥ ४-१७-१२ ॥
'Had he gambled day and night for years, staking thousands of nishkas and other treasures .' ॥ 4-17-12 ॥
english translation
रुक्मं हिरण्यं वासांसि यानं युग्यम अजाविकम अश्वाश्वतर संघांश च न जातु कषयम आवहेत ॥ ४-१७-१३ ॥
'Neither gold, nor silver, nor garments, nor chariots, nor yoked animals, nor flocks of goats and sheep, nor assemblies of horses and mules would ever have been exhausted.' ॥ 4-17-13 ॥
english translation
सॊ ऽयं दयूतप्रवादेन शरिया परत्यवरॊपितः तूष्णीम आस्ते यथा मूढः सवानि कर्माणि चिन्तयन ॥ ४-१७-१४ ॥
'Now, stripped of his prosperity by the vice of gambling, he sits in silence—like a man bewildered—reflecting only on his own ruin.' ॥ 4-17-14 ॥

दशनागसहस्राणि पद्मिनां हेममालिनाम यं यान्तम अनुयान्तीह सॊ ऽयं दयूतेन जीवति ॥ ४-१७-१५ ॥
'Alas! That same Yudhishthira, who once traveled with ten thousand elephants adorned with golden garlands, now earns his livelihood by casting dice.' ॥ 4-17-15 ॥
