[वै] सा हता सूतपुत्रेण राजपुत्री समज्वलत वधं कृष्णा परीप्सन्ती सेना वाहस्य भामिनी जगामावासम एवाथ तदा सा दरुपदात्म जा ।। ४-१६-१ ।।

'Vaisampayana said: Thus insulted by the son of the Suta, that illustrious princess—the radiant Krishna—burning with indignation and longing for the death of Virata’s commander, withdrew to her chambers.' ।। 4-16-1 ।।

english translation

[vai] sA hatA sUtaputreNa rAjaputrI samajvalata vadhaM kRSNA parIpsantI senA vAhasya bhAminI jagAmAvAsama evAtha tadA sA darupadAtma jA || 4-16-1 ||

कृत्वा शौचं यथान्यायं कृष्णा वै तनुमध्यमा गत्राणि वाससी चैव परक्षाल्य सलिलेन सा ।। ४-१६-२ ।।

'And then Krishna, the dark-hued daughter of Drupada, slender-waisted and grief-stricken, performed her ablutions. She washed her body and garments with water.' ।। 4-16-2 ।।

kRtvA zaucaM yathAnyAyaM kRSNA vai tanumadhyamA gatrANi vAsasI caiva parakSAlya salilena sA || 4-16-2 ||

चिन्तयाम आस रुदती तस्य दुःखस्य निर्णयम किं करॊमि कव गच्छामि कथं कार्यं भवेन मम ।। ४-१६-३ ।।

'Krishna, weeping, began to ponder how she might dispel her sorrow. And she thought, “What am I to do? Where shall I go? How can my purpose be fulfilled?”' ।। 4-16-3 ।।

cintayAma Asa rudatI tasya duHkhasya nirNayama kiM karòmi kava gacchAmi kathaM kAryaM bhavena mama || 4-16-3 ||

इत्य एवं चिन्तयित्वा सा भीमं वै मनसागमत नान्यः कर्ता ऋते भीमान ममाद्य मनसः परियम ।। ४-१६-४ ।।

'And as she continued to ponder, Krishna thought of Bhima and said to herself, “None but Bhima can fulfill today the longing that burns within my heart.”' ।। 4-16-4 ।।

itya evaM cintayitvA sA bhImaM vai manasAgamata nAnyaH kartA Rte bhImAna mamAdya manasaH pariyama || 4-16-4 ||

तत उत्थाय रात्रौ सा विहाय शयनं सवकम पराद्रवन नाथम इच्छन्ती कृष्णा नाथवती सती दुःखेन महता युक्ता मानसेन मनस्विनी ।। ४-१६-५ ।।

'Afflicted with immense grief, the large-eyed and wise Krishna—she who was guarded by mighty heroes—rose in the night. Abandoning her bed, she hastened toward Bhimasena’s quarters, longing to behold her lord.' ।। 4-16-5 ।।

tata utthAya rAtrau sA vihAya zayanaM savakama parAdravana nAthama icchantI kRSNA nAthavatI satI duHkhena mahatA yuktA mAnasena manasvinI || 4-16-5 ||
