तरिशिखां भरुकुटीं चास्य ददृशुः सर्वपार्थिवाः ललाटस्थां तरिकूटस्थां गङ्गां तरिपथगाम इव ॥ २-३९-११ ॥
'The assembled monarchs beheld three lines of wrinkles on his forehead, resembling the triple currents of the Ganga flowing from the three-peaked mountain.' ॥ 2-39-11 ॥
english translation
tarizikhAM bharukuTIM cAsya dadRzuH sarvapArthivAH lalATasthAM tarikUTasthAM gaGgAM taripathagAma iva ॥ 2-39-11 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदन्तान संदशतस तस्य कॊपाद ददृशुर आननम युगान्ते सर्वभूतानि कालस्येव दिधक्षतः ॥ २-३९-१२ ॥
'As Bhimasena began to grind his teeth in rage, the monarchs saw his face resembling that of Death itself at the end of the Yuga, ready to devour all beings.' ॥ 2-39-12 ॥

dantAna saMdazatasa tasya kòpAda dadRzura Ananama yugAnte sarvabhUtAni kAlasyeva didhakSataH ॥ 2-39-12 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउत्पतन्तं तु वेगेन जग्राहैनं मनस्विनम भीष्म एव महाबाहुर महासेनम इवेश्वरः ॥ २-३९-१३ ॥
'As the hero, endowed with great energy of mind, was about to leap up impetuously, the mighty-armed Bhishma seized him, like Mahadeva restraining Mahasena, the celestial general.' ॥ 2-39-13 ॥

utpatantaM tu vegena jagrAhainaM manasvinama bhISma eva mahAbAhura mahAsenama ivezvaraH ॥ 2-39-13 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य भीमस्य भीष्मेण वार्यमाणस्य भारत गुरुणा विविधैर वाक्यैः करॊधः परशमम आगतः ॥ २-३९-१४ ॥
'And, O Bharata, Bhima's wrath was soon appeased by Bhishma, the grand-sire of the Kurus, with various kinds of counsel.' ॥ 2-39-14 ॥

tasya bhImasya bhISmeNa vAryamANasya bhArata guruNA vividhaira vAkyaiH karòdhaH parazamama AgataH ॥ 2-39-14 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनातिचक्राम भीष्मस्य स हि वाक्यम अरिंदमः समुद्धूतॊ घनापाये वेलाम इव महॊदधिः ॥ २-३९-१५ ॥
'Bhima, the chastiser of foes, could not defy Bhishma's words, just as the ocean, even when swollen by the rains, never oversteps its boundaries.' ॥ 2-39-15 ॥
