O Bhārata, we watched him swing the mace in every direction; he moved as though dancing—like Śaṅkara (Śiva) in his dance.

english translation

O great king, we beheld that heavy mace—like Yama’s staff and sounding like Indra’s thunderbolt—fierce and ruinous in its effect.

english translation

It was mingled with hair and marrow and smeared with blood—like Rudra’s Pināka when, in wrath, he strikes down living beings.

english translation

As a herdsman scatters a packed herd with his staff, so Bhīma scattered the elephant-corps with his mace.

english translation

Pressed by the mace and by arrows on all sides, your elephants fled, trampling their own formations as they ran.
