As he performed his martial office in the fray and bore down upon the opposing ranks, the warriors there cried out again and again in many ways, seeing your father move about with an aspect almost superhuman.

english translation

Like moths, kings—impelled by fate—fell in their thousands toward the ‘fire’ of Bhīṣma, enraged and blazing in combat, to their own ruin.

english translation

Indeed, no arrow of Bhīṣma was ineffective in the engagement; because the press of bodies—men, elephants, and horses—was so dense, his shafts found their marks with ease.

english translation

With a single arrow—well loosed, swift as a winged thing—he split the elephant’s plated armor, as though the finest mountain were struck by a thunderbolt.

english translation

Your father struck down two or even three elephant-riders at once—though they stood in a tight array and were armored—by means of a very sharp nārāca arrow.
