A swift, mighty river began to flow, bearing blood—terrifying, with elephant-limbs for boulders and with flesh and gore for its mud.

english translation

Arising then from the bodies of splendid horses, men, and elephants, it flowed toward the ocean of the next world, delighting vultures and jackals.

english translation

Such a battle has neither been seen nor even heard of, O king—like this one between your sons and the Pāṇḍavas, O Bhārata.

english translation

There was no chariot-path there, for it was covered by warriors fallen in battle and by dark elephants that had collapsed, as though enclosed by mountain-peaks.

english translation

O revered one, that field of battle shone resplendent, strewn with variegated armor, standards, and royal parasols—like the autumn sky.
