‘You should have spoken to me earlier, O king, at the outset. For I will not engage the Pāṇḍavas in close combat—nor Pārṣata (Dhṛṣṭadyumna) and Sātyaki.’

english translation

Hearing those words of the preceptor and of Kṛpa addressed to you, he—together with Karṇa—at that very time reflected on what ought to be done.

english translation

‘If you two are not to set me aside here in this engagement, then fight in a manner commensurate with your valor, O bulls among men.’

english translation

Having heard these words, Bhīṣma repeatedly smiled and then addressed your son, his eyes widened with anger.

english translation

Many times, O King, I have spoken to you truthful and beneficial words: the Pāṇḍavas are unconquerable in strategic engagement—even by the gods together with Vāsava.
