Seeing from afar Dhṛṣṭadyumna and Vṛkodara (Bhīma)—both high-spirited heroes—Sātyaki watched them engaging the Kaliṅgas in the clash.

english translation

Going there swiftly, Śaineya (Sātyaki), foremost among victors, that bull among men, took up the rear-guard for Pārtha (Arjuna) and Pārṣata (Dhṛṣṭadyumna).

english translation

Having wrought fierce slaughter there, bow in hand, he assumed a wrathful martial stance and struck down the opposing warriors in the fray.

english translation

There Bhīma set in motion, as it were, a “river” born of the Kaliṅgas—miry with flesh and blood, and streaming with blood.

english translation

Between the Kaliṅga array and the Pāṇḍava host, mighty Bhīmasena forced his way across a passage exceedingly hard to traverse.
