Elephants whose riders had been felled by the great-souled Pāṇḍava wandered in confusion through the ranks like clouds driven by the wind—crushing their own units, crying out, and tormented by arrows.

english translation

Then the strong, long-armed Bhīma sounded his conch, causing the minds of all the Kaliṅga troops to tremble.

english translation

Confusion also entered the Kaliṅgas, O scorcher of foes; and the troops and their mounts and vehicles shook on all sides.

english translation

O King, as Bhīma ranged through the battle on every side like a lordly elephant—traversing many paths, running here and there, and repeatedly springing forward—general disorientation arose.

english translation

The army, shaken by fear of Bhīmasena, trembled; it was churned though not hemmed in—like a great lake agitated by a crocodile.
