Bhīṣma, foremost among chariot-warriors, swiftly struck the Pāṇḍava with eighty sharp arrows; then your side raised a loud acclaim.

english translation

Hearing the roar of those who were elated, that powerful ‘lion among charioteers’ became elated as well and then entered the midst (of the opposing force).

english translation

Having reached the midst of those lion-like chariot-warriors, Dhanaṃjaya (Arjuna), O King, displayed mastery with his bow, taking the great chariot-fighters as his targets.

english translation

Then King Duryodhana, the lord of men, addressed Bhīṣma, having seen his own forces being pressed hard by Pārtha (Arjuna) in the engagement.

english translation

‘This son of Pāṇḍu, father, powerful and accompanied by Kṛṣṇa, is cutting at the very base of our forces even as all our armies strive. While you, O Gāṅgeya, and Droṇa—the foremost of chariot-fighters—are still alive, this should not be happening.’
