They take refuge in immeasurable anxiety that persists until dissolution, holding as their settled conclusion that the highest aim is the enjoyment of desires—‘this much alone’.

english translation

Bound by hundreds of nooses of expectation, devoted to desire and anger, they strive to amass wealth for the sake of sense-enjoyment by unjust means.

english translation

“This I have gained today; this desire I shall attain. This is mine, and this wealth too will again be mine in the future.”

english translation

“That adversary has been neutralized by me; I shall neutralize others as well. I am the master; I am the enjoyer; I am successful, powerful, and content.”

english translation

“I am wealthy and of high lineage; who else is equal to me? I shall perform sacrifices, I shall give, I shall enjoy”—thus they are deluded by ignorance.
