Bhīṣma, bearing a banner marked with a golden palm-tree, shone as he stood upon his chariot; the Kuru-Pāṇḍavas beheld him like the sun amid white clouds.

english translation

Seeing Bhīṣma at the head of the host, the Pāṇḍavas were shaken; and so too the Sṛñjayas—mighty bowmen—led by Dhṛṣṭadyumna.

english translation

Like small animals on seeing a great lion stretching itself, all those led by Dhṛṣṭadyumna repeatedly recoiled in apprehension.

english translation

These are your eleven fortunate divisions, O Bhārata; and the Pāṇḍavas have seven, maintained and commanded by great persons.

english translation

Both appeared like two oceans converging at the end of an age—whirling with frenzied makaras and crowded with great sea-creatures.
