Hearing that the Śāṃtanava—trained in the disciplined use of all weapons, self-restrained, tranquil, and high-minded—has been brought down, I deem the remaining strength to be, as it were, already undone.

english translation

It is my judgment that adharma has grown stronger than dharma—where the Pāṇḍavas seek sovereignty after bringing down an aged teacher.

english translation

Formerly, Rāma Jāmadagnya—unsurpassed in the knowledge of every weapon—rose to battle for Ambā’s sake, yet in combat he was defeated by Bhīṣma.

english translation

You tell me that Bhīṣma has been brought down—he whose deeds were like Indra’s, the foremost pillar among all archers. What sorrow could surpass this?

english translation

By him—the slayer of opposing champions—hosts of kṣatriyas were repeatedly defeated in battle, and likewise even Rāma Jāmadagnya.
