धूमातपतुषाराम्बुक्रीडातिस्वप्नजागरैः । उत्स्वेदाधिपुरोवातबाष्पनिग्रहरोदनैः ॥ १ ॥

Exposure to smoke (dhūma), sunlight (ātapa), and snow/mist/dew (tuṣāra); over-indulgence in water sports (ambu-krīḍā); excessive sleep (ati-svapna) and keeping awake (jāgara); severe sweating (utsveda); exposure to heavy/direct eastern breeze (adhi-purovāta); suppressing tears (bāṣpa-nigraha) and weeping too much (rodana);

अत्यम्बुमद्यपानेन कृमिभिर्वेगधारणैः । उपधानमृजाभ्यङ्गद्वेषाधःप्रततेक्षणैः ॥ २ ॥

excessive water (atyambu) and wine intake (madyapāna); presence of worms (kṛmi); suppression of natural urges (vega-dhāraṇa); aversion to/avoiding pillows (upadhāna-dveṣa), cleanliness/baths (mṛjā-dveṣa), and oil massage (abhyaṅga-dveṣa); looking downwards continuously for long periods (adhaḥ-pratata-īkṣaṇa);

असात्म्यगन्धदुष्टामभाष्याद्यैश्च शिरोगताः । जनयन्त्यामयान् दोषाः तत्रमारुतकोपत् ॥ ३ ॥

exposure to unaccustomed (asātmya), obnoxious/foul (duṣṭa), and raw smells; excessive speaking (atibhāṣya), etc.; by these causes, the aggravated doṣas located in the head produce diseases of the head (śirogātāḥ janayanti āmayān doṣāḥ). There, by the aggravation of Vātadhātu (māruta-kopāt), [the following symptoms appear]:

निस्तुद्येते भृशं शङ्खौ घाटा सम्भिद्यते तथा । भ्रुवोर्मध्यं ललाटं च पततीवातिवेदनम् ॥ ४ ॥

Severe pricking pain (bhṛśaṃ nistudyet) in the two temples (śaṅkhau); feeling of severe splitting pain in the ghāṭā (nape of the neck/back of head); severe pain as if the center of the eyebrows (bhruvor-madhyaṃ) and forehead (lalāṭaṃ) are falling out (patatīva);

nistudyete bhRzaM zaGkhau ghATA sambhidyate tathA । bhruvormadhyaM lalATaM ca patatIvAtivedanam ॥ 4 ॥

बाध्येते स्वनतः श्रोत्रे निष्कृष्येते इवाक्षिणी । घूर्णतीव शिरः सर्वं सन्धिभ्य इव मुच्यते ॥ ५ ॥

the two ears (śrotre) are afflicted with pain and ringing sounds (svanataḥ); the two eyes (akṣiṇī) feel as though they are being pulled/plucked out (niṣkṛṣyeta iva); the entire head feels as if it is reeling/spinning (ghūrṇatīva), and as if being loosened from all its joints (sandhibhya iva mucyate);

bAdhyete svanataH zrotre niSkRSyete ivAkSiNI । ghUrNatIva ziraH sarvaM sandhibhya iva mucyate ॥ 5 ॥
