क्षारं प्रमार्जनेनानु परिमृज्यावगम्य च। सुदग्धं घृतमध्वक्तं तत्पयोमस्तुकाञ्जिकैः॥३१॥
Measures to be taken after application of kshara: After the prescribed time, the alkali is wiped off with a cotton swab etc. and considering that the site has been properly burnt by the alkali, a mixture of ghee and honey should be applied,

kSAraM pramArjanenAnu parimRjyAvagamya ca। sudagdhaM ghRtamadhvaktaM tatpayomastukAJjikaiH॥31॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनिर्वापयेत्ततः साज्यैः स्वादुशीतैः प्रदेहयेत्। अभिष्यन्दीनि भोज्यानि क्लेदनाय च॥३२॥
made cool by pouring milk, whey or sour gruel, and then applying a paste of herbs of predominantly sweet taste and cold potency admixed in ghee. The patient should consume foods which produce more secretions in the cells in order to moisten the site of burn (burnt by alkali).

If the site of the burn does not get torn from an ulcer due to it being deep seated, then a paste of active essence of dhanyamla i.e., fermented sour gruel, Glycyrrhiza glabra and Sesamum indicum should be applied.

Paste of tila and Madhuka mixed with ghee heals the ulcer. Symptoms of proper burning by kshara Symptoms of good burning due to alkali are attaining black color similar to ripe fruit of Jamun (Syzygium cumini) and depression of the site.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptताम्रतातोदकण्ड्वाद्यैर्दुर्दग्धम् तं पुनर्दहेत्। अतिदग्धे स्रवेद्रक्तं मूर्च्छादाहज्वरादयः॥३५॥
The opposite of it, that is the appearance of coppery red color, pricking pain, itching etc. are the features of improper/inadequate burning. Such an area should be burnt again. Symptoms of excessive burning by kshara: Over burning (by alkalis) produces bleeding, fainting, burning sensation, fever etc.
