अथात उन्मादप्रतिषेधमध्यायं व्याख्यास्यामः ॥१॥
Now we shall discourse on the chapter which deals with the (symptoms and) medical treatment of Insanity.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptमदयन्त्युद्ध(द्ग)ता दोषा यस्मादुन्मार्गमाश्रिताः । मानसोऽयमतो व्याधिरुन्माद इति कीर्तितः ॥३॥
The doshas, when aggravated, cause disturbances, and when they follow the path of the mind, they lead to the disease called Unmada (Insanity), as it is known.

जब दोष उत्तेजित हो जाते हैं, तो वे अशांति पैदा करते हैं, और जब वे मन के मार्ग पर चलते हैं, तो वे उन्माद (पागलपन) नामक रोग को जन्म देते हैं।

madayantyuddha(dga)tA doSA yasmAdunmArgamAzritAH । mAnaso'yamato vyAdhirunmAda iti kIrtitaH ॥3॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएकैकशः समस्तैश्च दोषैरत्यर्थमूर्च्छितैः । मानसेना च दुःखेन स पञ्चविध उच्यते ॥४॥
Each type of insanity, when afflicted by the various doshas, causes extreme unconsciousness. It is said to be of five types, due to the suffering of the mind.

प्रत्येक प्रकार का पागलपन, जब विभिन्न दोषों से ग्रसित होता है, तो अत्यधिक बेहोशी पैदा करता है। मन की पीड़ा के कारण इसे पाँच प्रकार का कहा गया है।

ekaikazaH samastaizca doSairatyarthamUrcchitaiH । mAnasenA ca duHkhena sa paJcavidha ucyate ॥4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविषाद्भवति षष्ठश्च यथास्वं तत्र भेषजम् । स चाप्रवृद्धस्तरुणो मदसञ्ज्ञां बिभर्ति च ॥५॥
The sixth type of insanity arises from grief, and the treatment for it is as per its specific nature. If it does not progress further, the person may be diagnosed with Mada (a preliminary stage of insanity).

छठे प्रकार का पागलपन दुःख से उत्पन्न होता है, और इसका उपचार इसकी विशिष्ट प्रकृति के अनुसार होता है। यदि यह आगे नहीं बढ़ता है, तो व्यक्ति को मद (पागलपन की प्रारंभिक अवस्था) का निदान किया जा सकता है।
