Wound-destroying marmas are associated with air; as long as the air stays inside, life continues. Once a wound is opened, the life force exits from the marma, leading to death. Disability-inducing marmas have gentle properties that promote stability and vitality; they support the life force. Pain-inducing marmas exhibit strong qualities of fire and air, causing severe pain. There are also references to the five great elements related to pain.
