कुलिङ्गमिथुनं तत्र विचरत्समदृश्यत । तयोः कुलिङ्गी सहसा लुब्धकेन प्रलोभिता ॥ ७-२-५१ ॥
While wandering in the forest, the hunter saw a pair of kuliṅga birds. Of the two, the female was captivated by the hunter’s lure. ॥ 7-2-51 ॥

जंगल में घूमते हुए उस बहेलिया ने कुलिंग पक्षियों का एक जोड़ा देखा। इन दोनों में से मादा पक्षी बहेलिया के प्रलोभन में आ गई। ॥ ७-२-५१ ॥

सासज्जत सिचस्तन्त्र्यां महिषी कालयन्त्रिता । कुलिङ्गस्तां तथाऽऽपन्नां निरीक्ष्य भृशदुःखितः । स्नेहादकल्पः कृपणः कृपणां पर्यदेवयत् ॥ ७-२-५२ ॥
O queens of Suyajña, the male kuliṅga bird, seeing his wife put into the greatest danger in the grip of Providence, became very unhappy. Because of affection, the poor bird, being unable to release her, began to lament for his wife. ॥ 7-2-52 ॥

हे सुयज्ञ की रानियो, नर कुलिंग पक्षी अपनी पत्नी को विधाता के अत्यन्त स्वप्नपूर्ण चंगुल में पड़ी देखकर अत्यन्त दुखी हुआ। स्नेहवश बेचारा पक्षी अपनी पत्नी को छुड़ा न सकने के कारण उसके लिए शोक करने लगा। ॥ ७-२-५२ ॥

अहो अकरुणो देवः स्त्रियाकरुणया विभुः । कृपणं मानुशोचन्त्या दीनया किं करिष्यति ॥ ७-२-५३ ॥
Alas, how merciless is Providence! My wife, unable to be helped by anyone, is in such an awkward position and lamenting for me. What will Providence gain by taking away this poor bird? What will be the profit? ॥ 7-2-53 ॥
english translation
ओह! विधाता कितना क्रूर है। मेरी पत्नी असहाय होने से ही ऐसी विषम स्थिति में है—और मेरे लिए विलाप कर रही है। भला विधाता इस बेचारे मादा पक्षी को लेकर क्या पाएगा? उसे क्या लाभ होगा। ॥ ७-२-५३ ॥

कामं नयतु मां देवः किमर्धेनात्मनो हि मे । दीनेन जीवता दुःखमनेन विधुरायुषा ॥ ७-२-५४ ॥
If unkind Providence takes away my wife, who is half my body, why should He not take me also? What is the use of my living with half of my body, bereaved by loss of my wife? What shall I gain in this way? ॥ 7-2-54 ॥

यदि निर्दय विधाता मेरी अर्धांगिनी, मेरी पत्नी, को लिए जा रहा है, तो वह मुझे भी क्यों नहीं ले जाता? आधा शरीर लेकर और अपनी पत्नी की क्षति से विरहित होकर मेरे जीने से क्या लाभ? मुझे इस तरह से क्या मिलेगा? ॥ ७-२-५४ ॥

कथं त्वजातपक्षांस्तान् मातृहीनान् बिभर्म्यहम् । मन्दभाग्याः प्रतीक्षन्ते नीडे मे मातरं प्रजाः ॥ ७-२-५५ ॥
The unfortunate baby birds, bereft of their mother, are waiting in the nest for her to feed them. They are still very small and have not yet grown their wings. How shall I be able to maintain them? ॥ 7-2-55 ॥

पक्षी के अभागे बच्चे मातृविहीन होकर अपने घोंसले में उसकी प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं कि वह आए तो उन्हें खिलाए। वे अब भी बहुत छोटे हैं और उनके पंख तक नहीं उगे हैं। मैं उनका किस प्रकार पालन कर सकूँगा? ॥ ७-२-५५ ॥
