एतत्पदं तज्जगदात्मनः परं सकृद्विभातं सवितुर्यथा प्रभा । यथासवो जाग्रति सुप्तशक्तयो द्रव्यक्रियाज्ञानभिदा भ्रमात्ययः ।। ४-३१-१६ ।।

sanskrit

Just as the sunshine is nondifferent from the sun, the cosmic manifestation is also nondifferent from the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Supreme Personality is therefore all-pervasive within this material creation. When the senses are active, they appear to be part and parcel of the body, but when the body is asleep, their activities are unmanifest. Similarly, the whole cosmic creation appears different and yet nondifferent from the Supreme Person. ।। 4-31-16 ‌‌।।

english translation

जिस प्रकार सूर्य-प्रकाश सूर्य से अभिन्न है, उसी प्रकार यह दृश्य जगत भी भगवान् से अभिन्न है। अत: भगवान् इस भौतिक सृष्टि के भीतर सर्वत्र व्याप्त हैं। जब इन्द्रियाँ चेतन रहती हैं, तो वे शरीर के अंगस्वरूप प्रतीत होती हैं, किन्तु जब शरीर सोया रहता है, तो सारी क्रियाएँ अव्यक्त होती हैं। इसी प्रकार सारा दृश्य जगत भिन्न प्रतीत होने पर भी परम पुरुष से अभिन्न है। ।। ४-३१-१६ ।।

यथा नभस्यभ्रतमः प्रकाशा भवन्ति भूपा न भवन्त्यनुक्रमात् । एवं परे ब्रह्मणि शक्तयस्त्वमू रजस्तमःसत्त्वमिति प्रवाहः ।। ४-३१-१७ ।।

My dear Kings, sometimes in the sky there are clouds, sometimes there is darkness, and sometimes there is illumination. The appearance of all these takes place consecutively. Similarly, in the Supreme Absolute, the modes of passion, darkness and goodness appear as consecutive energies. Sometimes they appear, and sometimes they disappear. ।। 4-31-17 ।।

english translation

हे राजाओ, आकाश में कभी बादल, कभी अंधकार और कभी प्रकाश रहता है। इनका प्राकट्य एक क्रम से होता रहता है। इसी तरह सतो, रजो तथा तमोगुण परब्रह्म में क्रमश: शक्ति रूप में प्रकट होते हैं। कभी वे प्रकट होते हैं, तो कभी लुप्त होते हैं। ।। ४-३१-१७ ।।

तेनैकमात्मानमशेषदेहिनां कालं प्रधानं पुरुषं परेशम् । स्वतेजसा ध्वस्तगुणप्रवाहमात्मैकभावेन भजध्वमद्धा ।। ४-३१-१८ ।।

Because the Supreme Lord is the cause of all causes, He is the Supersoul of all individual living entities, and He exists as both the remote and immediate cause. Since He is aloof from the material emanations, He is free from their interactions and is Lord of material nature. You should therefore engage in His devotional service, thinking yourself qualitatively one with Him. ।। 4-31-18 ‌।।

english translation

चूँकि परमेश्वर समस्त कारणों के कारण हैं, अत: वे समस्त जीवों के परमात्मा हैं और वे निकटवर्ती तथा सुदूर कारण हैं। चूँकि वे भौतिक प्रसर्जनों से विलग हैं, अत: वे उनकी अन्योन्य क्रियाओं से मुक्त हैं और प्रकृति के स्वामी हैं। अत: तुम्हें उनसे गुणात्मक रूप से अपने आपको अभिन्न मानते हुए उनकी सेवा करनी चाहिए। ।। ४-३१-१८ ।।

दयया सर्वभूतेषु सन्तुष्ट्या येन केन वा । सर्वेन्द्रियोपशान्त्या च तुष्यत्याशु जनार्दनः ।। ४-३१-१९ ।।

By showing mercy to all living entities, being satisfied somehow or other, and restricting the senses from sense enjoyment, one can very quickly satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Janārdana. ।। 4-31-19 ।।

english translation

समस्त जीवों पर दया करने से, येन-केन प्रकार से सन्तुष्ट रहने से तथा इन्द्रियों को वश में करने से मनुष्य भगवान् जनार्दन को बहुत शीघ्र संतुष्ट कर सकता है। ।। ४-३१-१९ ।।

अपहतसकलैषणामलात्मन्यविरतमेधितभावनोपहूतः । निजजनवशगत्वमात्मनो यन्न सरति छिद्रवदक्षरः सतां हि ।। ४-३१-२० ।।

Being completely cleansed of all material desires, the devotees are freed from all mental contamination. Thus they can always think of the Lord constantly and address Him very feelingly. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, knowing Himself to be controlled by His devotees, does not leave them for a second, just as the sky overhead never becomes invisible. ।। 4-31-20 ।।

english translation

समस्त इच्छाओं के दूर हो जाने से भक्तगण समस्त मानसिक विकारों (कल्मष) से मुक्त हो जाते हैं। इस तरह वे भगवान् का निरन्तर चिन्तन कर सकते हैं और उनको भावपूर्वक सम्बोधन कर सकते हैं। भगवान् अपने को अपने भक्तों के वश में जानते हुए उन्हें क्षण भर के लिए भी नहीं छोड़ते, जिस प्रकार सिर के ऊपर का आकाश कभी अदृश्य नहीं होता। ।। ४-३१-२० ।।
