न भजति कुमनीषिणां स इज्यां हरिरधनात्मधनप्रियो रसज्ञः । श्रुतधनकुलकर्मणां मदैर्ये विदधति पापमकिञ्चनेषु सत्सु ।। ४-३१-२१ ।।

sanskrit

The Supreme Personality of Godhead becomes very dear to those devotees who have no material possessions but are fully happy in possessing the devotional service of the Lord. Indeed, the Lord relishes the devotional activities of such devotees. Those who are puffed up with material education, wealth, aristocracy and fruitive activity are very proud of possessing material things, and they often deride the devotees. Even if such people offer the Lord worship, the Lord never accepts them. ।। 4-31-21 ।।

english translation

भगवान् उन भक्तों को अत्यन्य प्रिय होते हैं जिनके पास कोई भौतिक सम्पत्ति नहीं है, किन्तु जो भगवद्भक्ति को ही अपना धन मानकर प्रसन्न रहते हैं। दरअसल, भगवान् ऐसे भक्तों के भक्ति-कार्यों का आनन्द लेते हैं। जो लोग अपनी शिक्षा, सम्पत्ति, कुलीनता और सकाम कर्म इत्यादि भौतिक वस्तुओं के मद से फूले रहते हैं, वे कभी-कभी भक्तों का उपहास करते हैं। ऐसे लोग यदि भगवान् की पूजा करते भी हैं, तो वे उसे कभी स्वीकार नहीं करते। ।। ४-३१-२१ ।।

श्रियमनुचरतीं तदर्थिनश्च द्विपदपतीन् विबुधांश्च यत्स्वपूर्णः । न भजति निजभृत्यवर्गतन्त्रः कथममुमुद्विसृजेत्पुमान् कृतज्ञः ।। ४-३१-२२ ।।

sanskrit

Although the Supreme Personality of Godhead is self-sufficient, He becomes dependent on His devotees. He does not care for the goddess of fortune, nor for the kings and demigods who are after the favors of the goddess of fortune. Where is that person who is actually grateful and will not worship the Personality of Godhead? ।। 4-31-22 ।।

english translation

यद्यपि श्रीभगवान् आत्मनिर्भर हैं, किन्तु वे भक्तों पर आश्रित हो जाते हैं। वे न तो लक्ष्मी जी की परवाह करते हैं और न उन राजाओं तथा देवताओं की जो लक्ष्मी जी के कृपाभाजन बनना चाहते हैं। ऐसा कौन व्यक्ति होगा जो वास्तव में कृतज्ञ होते हुए भगवान् की पूजा न करे? ।। ४-३१-२२ ।।

मैत्रेय उवाच इति प्रचेतसो राजन्नन्याश्च भगवत्कथाः । श्रावयित्वा ब्रह्मलोकं ययौ स्वायम्भुवो मुनिः ।। ४-३१-२३ ।।

sanskrit

The great sage Maitreya continued: My dear King Vidura, Śrī Nārada Muni, the son of Lord Brahmā, thus described all these relationships with the Supreme Personality of Godhead to the Pracetās. Afterward, he returned to Brahmaloka. ।। 4-31-23 ।।

english translation

मैत्रेय ऋषि ने आगे कहा : हे विदुर, इस प्रकार ब्रह्मा के पुत्र नारद मुनि ने प्रचेताओं से भगवान् के साथ इन सम्बन्धों का वर्णन किया। तत्पश्चात् वे ब्रह्मलोक को चले गये। ।। ४-३१-२३ ।।

तेऽपि तन्मुखनिर्यातं यशो लोकमलापहम् । हरेर्निशम्य तत्पादं ध्यायन्तस्तद्गतिं ययुः ।। ४-३१-२४ ।।

sanskrit

Hearing from Nārada’s mouth the glories of the Lord, which vanquish all the ill fortune of the world, the Pracetās also became attached to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Meditating on His lotus feet, they advanced to the ultimate destination. ।। 4-31-24 ।।

english translation

नारद के मुख से संसार के समस्त दुर्भाग्य को दूर करने वाली भगवान् की महिमा को सुन कर प्रचेता गण भी भगवान् के प्रति आसक्त हो उठे। वे भगवान् के चरणकमलों का ध्यान करते हुए चरम गन्तव्य को चले गये। ।। ४-३१-२४ ।।

te'pi tanmukhaniryAtaM yazo lokamalApaham | harernizamya tatpAdaM dhyAyantastadgatiM yayuH || 4-31-24 ||

एतत्तेऽभिहितं क्षत्तर्यन्मां त्वं परिपृष्टवान् । प्रचेतसां नारदस्य संवादं हरिकीर्तनम् ।। ४-३१-२५ ।।

My dear Vidura, I have told you everything you wanted to know about the conversation between Nārada and the Pracetās, the conversation describing the glories of the Lord. I have related this as far as possible. ।। 4-31-25 ।।

english translation

हे विदुर, मैंने तुम्हें वह सब कुछ सुना दिया है, जो तुम नारद तथा प्रचेताओं के भगवत्कथा सम्बन्धी वार्तालाप के विषय में जानना चाह रहे थे। जहाँ तक सम्भव था मैंने तुम्हें बता दिया है। ।। ४-३१-२५ ।।
