पञ्चद्वारस्तु पौरस्त्या दक्षिणैका तथोत्तरा । पश्चिमे द्वे अमूषां ते नामानि नृप वर्णये ॥ ४-२५-४६ ॥

My dear King, of the nine doors, five led toward the eastern side, one led toward the northern side, one led toward the southern side, and two led toward the western side. I shall try to give the names of these different doors. ॥ 4-25-46 ॥

english translation

हे राजन्, नौ द्वारों में से पाँच पूर्व की ओर, एक उत्तर तथा एक दक्षिण दिशा को और दो पश्चिम की ओर जाते थे। अब मैं इन विभिन्न द्वारों के नाम बताने का प्रयास करूँगा। ॥ ४-२५-४६ ॥

खद्योताविर्मुखी च प्राग्द्वारावेकत्र निर्मिते । विभ्राजितं जनपदं याति ताभ्यां द्युमत्सखः ॥ ४-२५-४७ ॥

The two gates named Khadyotā and Āvirmukhī were situated facing the eastern side, but they were constructed in one place. Through those two gates the King used to go to the city of Vibhrājita accompanied by a friend whose name was Dyumān. ॥ 4-25-47 ॥

english translation

खद्योता तथा आविर्मुखी नाम के दो द्वार पूर्व की ओर स्थित थे, किन्तु वे दोनों एक स्थान पर ही बनाये गये थे। राजा इन दोनों द्वारों से होकर विभ्राजित नामक नगरी को अपने मित्र द्युमान के साथ जाया करता था। ॥ ४-२५-४७ ॥

नलिनी नालिनी च प्राग्द्वारावेकत्र निर्मिते । अवधूतसखस्ताभ्यां विषयं याति सौरभम् ॥ ४-२५-४८ ॥

Similarly in the east there were two sets of gates named Nalinī and Nālinī, and these were also constructed in one place. Through these gates the King, accompanied by a friend named Avadhūta, used to go to the city of Saurabha. ॥ 4-25-48 ॥

इसी प्रकार पूर्व में नलिनी तथा नालिनी नामक (अन्य) दो द्वार थे और ये भी एक स्थान पर बनाये गये थे। इन द्वारों से राजा अपने मित्र अवधूत के साथ सौरभ नगर को जाया करता था। ॥ ४-२५-४८ ॥

मुख्या नाम पुरस्ताद्द्वास्तयापणबहूदनौ । विषयौ याति पुरराड्रसज्ञविपणान्वितः ॥ ४-२५-४९ ॥

The fifth gate situated on the eastern side was named Mukhyā, or the chief. Through this gate, accompanied by his friends named Rasajña and Vipaṇa, he used to visit two places named Bahūdana and Āpaṇa. ॥ 4-25-49 ॥

english translation

पूर्व दिशा में स्थित पाँचवें द्वार का नाम मुख्या अर्थात् मुख्य था। इस द्वार से वह रसज्ञ तथा विपण नामक दो मित्रों के साथ बहूदन तथा आपण नामक दो स्थानों को जाता था। ॥ ४-२५-४९ ॥

पितृहूर्नृप पुर्या द्वार्दक्षिणेन पुरञ्जनः । राष्ट्रं दक्षिणपञ्चालं याति श्रुतधरान्वितः ॥ ४-२५-५० ॥

The southern gate of the city was known as Pitṛhū, and through that gate King Purañjana used to visit the city named Dakṣiṇa-pañcāla, accompanied by his friend Śrutadhara. ॥ 4-25-50 ॥

english translation

नगर के दक्षिणी द्वार का नाम पितृहू था, जिससे होकर राजा पुरञ्जन अपने मित्र श्रुतधर के साथ दक्षिण-पञ्चाल नामक नगर देखने जाया करता था। ॥ ४-२५-५० ॥
