सैषा नूनं व्रजत्यूर्ध्वमनु वैन्यं पतिं सती । पश्यतास्मानतीत्यार्चिर्दुर्विभाव्येन कर्मणा ।। ४-२३-२६ ।।

sanskrit

The wives of the demigods continued: Just see how this chaste lady, Arci, by dint of her inconceivable pious activities, is still following her husband upward, as far as we can see. ।। 4-23-26 ।।

english translation

देवों की पत्नियों ने आगे कहा : जरा देखो तो कि वह सती नारी अर्चि किस प्रकार अपने अचिन्त्य पुण्य कर्मों के प्रभाव से अब भी अपने पति का अनुगमन करती हुई ऊपर की ओर, जहाँ तक हम देख सकती हैं, चली जा रही है। ।। ४-२३-२६ ।।

तेषां दुरापं किं त्वन्यन्मर्त्यानां भगवत्पदम् । भुवि लोलायुषो ये वै नैष्कर्म्यं साधयन्त्युत ।। ४-२३-२७ ।।

sanskrit

In this material world, every human being has a short span of life, but those who are engaged in devotional service go back home, back to Godhead, for they are actually on the path of liberation. For such persons, there is nothing which is not available. ।। 4-23-27 ।।

english translation

इस संसार में प्रत्येक मनुष्य का जीवन-काल लघु है, किन्तु जो भक्ति में अनुरक्त हैं, वे भगवान् के धाम वापस जाते हैं, क्योंकि वे सचमुच मोक्ष के मार्ग पर होते हैं। ऐसे लोगों के लिए कुछ भी दुर्लभ नहीं है। ।। ४-२३-२७ ।।

स वञ्चितो बतात्मध्रुक् कृच्छ्रेण महता भुवि । लब्ध्वाऽऽपवर्ग्यं मानुष्यं विषयेषु विषज्जते ।। ४-२३-२८ ।।

sanskrit

Any person who engages himself within this material world in performing activities that necessitate great struggle, and who, after obtaining a human form of life — which is a chance to attain liberation from miseries — undertakes the difficult tasks of fruitive activities, must be considered to be cheated and envious of his own self. ।। 4-23-28 ।।

english translation

जो मनुष्य इस संसार में अत्यन्त संघर्षमय कार्यों को सम्पन्न करने में लगा रहता है, और जो मनुष्य का शरीर पाकर—जो कि दुखों से मोक्ष प्राप्त करने का एक अवसर होता है—कठिन सकाम कार्यों को करता रहता है, तो उसे ठगा गया तथा अपने ही प्रति ईर्ष्यालु समझना चाहिए। ।। ४-२३-२८ ।।

मैत्रेय उवाच स्तुवतीष्वमरस्त्रीषु पतिलोकं गता वधूः । यं वा आत्मविदां धुर्यो वैन्यः प्रापाच्युताश्रयः ।। ४-२३-२९ ।।

The great sage Maitreya continued speaking: My dear Vidura, when the wives of the denizens of heaven were thus talking amongst themselves, Queen Arci reached the planet which her husband, Mahārāja Pṛthu, the topmost self-realized soul, had attained. ।। 4-23-29 ।।

english translation

मैत्रेय ऋषि ने आगे कहा : हे विदुर, जब देवताओं की पत्नियाँ इस प्रकार परस्पर बातें कर रही थीं तो अर्चि ने उस लोक को प्राप्त कर लिया था जहाँ उनके पति सर्वोत्कृष्ट स्वरूपसिद्ध महाराज पृथु पहुँच चुके थे। ।। ४-२३-२९ ।।

इत्थम्भूतानुभावोऽसौ पृथुः स भगवत्तमः । कीर्तितं तस्य चरितमुद्दामचरितस्य ते ।। ४-२३-३० ।।

sanskrit

Maitreya continued: The greatest of all devotees, Mahārāja Pṛthu, was very powerful, and his character was liberal, magnificent and magnanimous. Thus I have described him to you as far as possible. ।। 4-23-30 ।।

english translation

मैत्रेय ने आगे कहा : भक्तों में महान् महाराज पृथु अत्यन्त शक्तिशाली थे और उनका चरित्र अत्यन्त उदार तथा उद्दाम था। मैंने यथासम्भव तुमसे उसका वर्णन किया है। ।। ४-२३-३० ।।
