तदिदं पश्यत महद्धर्मव्यतिकरं द्विजाः । इन्द्रेणानुष्ठितं राज्ञः कर्मैतद्विजिघांसता ।। ४-१९-३१ ।।

sanskrit

In order to make trouble and impede the performance of King Pṛthu’s great sacrifice, King Indra has adopted some means that in the future will destroy the clear path of religious life. I draw your attention to this fact. If you oppose him any further, he will further misuse his power and introduce many other irreligious systems. ।। 4-19-31 ।।

english translation

राजा पृथु के महान् यज्ञ में विघ्न डालने तथा आपत्ति उठाने के उद्देश्य से राजा इन्द्र ने ऐसे साधन अपनाये हैं, जो भविष्य में धार्मिक जीवन के सुपथ को नष्ट कर सकते हैं। मैं इस ओर आप लोगों का ध्यान आकृष्ट कर रहा हूँ। यदि आप और अधिक विरोध करेंगे तो वह अपनी शक्ति का दुरुपयोग करके अनेक अधार्मिक पद्धतियों को फैलाएगा। ।। ४-१९-३१ ।।

“Let there be only ninety-nine sacrificial performances for Mahārāja Pṛthu,” Lord Brahmā concluded. Lord Brahmā then turned towards Mahārāja Pṛthu and informed him that since he was thoroughly aware of the path of liberation, what was the use in performing more sacrifices? ।। 4-19-32 ।।

english translation

ब्रह्माजी ने अन्त में कहा : “बस, महाराज पृथु के निन्यानब्वे यज्ञ ही रहने दो।” फिर वे महाराज पृथु की ओर मुड़े और उनसे कहा “आप मोक्ष मार्ग से भलीभाँति परिचित हैं, अत: आपको और अधिक यज्ञ करने से क्या मिलेगा?” ।। ४-१९-३२ ।।

नैवात्मने महेन्द्राय रोषमाहर्तुमर्हसि । उभावपि हि भद्रं ते उत्तमश्लोकविग्रहौ ।। ४-१९-३३ ।।

Lord Brahmā continued: Let there be good fortune to both of you, for you and King Indra are both part and parcel of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore you should not be angry with King Indra, who is nondifferent from you. ।। 4-19-33 ।।

english translation

ब्रह्माजी ने कहा : आप दोनों का कल्याण हो क्योंकि आप तथा इन्द्र दोनों ही भगवान् के अंश हैं। अत: आपको इन्द्र पर क्रुद्ध नहीं होना चाहिए; वह आपसे अभिन्न है। ।। ४-१९-३३ ।।

My dear King, do not be agitated and anxious because your sacrifices have not been properly executed due to providential impediments. Kindly take my words with great respect. We should always remember that if something happens by providential arrangement, we should not be very sorry. The more we try to rectify such reversals, the more we enter into the darkest region of materialistic thought. ।। 4-19-34 ।।

english translation

हे राजन्, दैवी व्यवधानों के कारण उचित रीति से आप के यज्ञ सम्पन्न न होने पर आप तनिक भी क्षुब्ध तथा चिन्तित न हों। कृपया मेरे वचनों को अति आदर भाव से ग्रहण करें। सदैव स्मरण रखें कि प्रारब्ध से जो कुछ घटित होता है उसके लिए हमें अधिक दुखी नहीं होना चाहिए। ऐसी पराजयों को सुधारने का जितना ही प्रयत्न किया जाता है, उतना ही हम भौतिकतावादी विचार के घने अंधकार में प्रवेश करते हैं। ।। ४-१९-३४ ।।

Lord Brahmā continued: Stop the performance of these sacrifices, for they have induced Indra to introduce so many irreligious aspects. You should know very well that even amongst the demigods there are many unwanted desires. ।। 4-19-35 ।।

english translation

ब्रह्माजी ने आगे कहा : इन यज्ञों को बन्द कीजिये क्योंकि इनके कारण इन्द्र अनेक अधर्म कर रहा है। आपको भली भाँति ज्ञात होना चाहिए कि देवताओं में भी अनेक अवांछित कामनाएँ होती हैं। ।। ४-१९-३५ ।।
