मैत्रेय उवाच अथादीक्षत राजा तु हयमेधशतेन सः । ब्रह्मावर्ते मनोः क्षेत्रे यत्र प्राची सरस्वती ।। ४-१९-१ ।।

sanskrit

The great sage Maitreya continued: My dear Vidura, King Pṛthu initiated the performance of one hundred horse sacrifices at the spot where the river Sarasvatī flows towards the east. This piece of land is known as Brahmāvarta, and it was controlled by Svāyambhuva Manu. ।। 4-19-1 ।।

english translation

महर्षि मैत्रेय ने आगे कहा : हे विदुर, राजा पृथु ने उस स्थान पर जहाँ सरस्वती नदी पूर्वमुखी होकर बहती है, एक सौ अश्वमेध यज्ञ आरम्भ किए। यह भूखण्ड ब्रह्मावर्त कहलाता है, जो स्वायंभुव मनु द्वारा शासित था। ।। ४-१९-१ ।।

तदभिप्रेत्य भगवान् कर्मातिशयमात्मनः । शतक्रतुर्न ममृषे पृथोर्यज्ञमहोत्सवम् ।। ४-१९-२ ।।

sanskrit

When the most powerful Indra, the King of heaven, saw this, he considered the fact that King Pṛthu was going to exceed him in fruitive activities. Thus Indra could not tolerate the great sacrificial ceremonies performed by King Pṛthu. ।। 4-19-2 ।।

english translation

जब स्वर्ग के राजा सर्वाधिक शक्तिशाली इन्द्र ने यह देखा तो उसने विचार किया कि सकाम कर्मों में राजा पृथु उससे बाजी मारने जा रहा है। अत: वह राजा पृथु द्वारा किये जा रहे यज्ञ- महोत्सव को सहन न कर सका। ।। ४-१९-२ ।।

यत्र यज्ञपतिः साक्षाद्भगवान् हरिरीश्वरः । अन्वभूयत सर्वात्मा सर्वलोकगुरुः प्रभुः ।। ४-१९-३ ।।

sanskrit

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Viṣṇu, is present in everyone’s heart as the Supersoul, and He is the proprietor of all planets and the enjoyer of the results of all sacrifices. He was personally present at the sacrifices made by King Pṛthu. ।। 4-19-3 ।।

english translation

भगवान् विष्णु हर प्राणी के हृदय में परमात्मा-रूप में स्थित हैं। वे समस्त लोकों के स्वामी तथा समस्त यज्ञ-फलों के भोक्ता हैं। वे राजा पृथु द्वारा किये गये यज्ञों में साक्षात् उपस्थित थे। ।। ४-१९-३ ।।

अन्वितो ब्रह्मशर्वाभ्यां लोकपालैः सहानुगैः । उपगीयमानो गन्धर्वैर्मुनिभिश्चाप्सरोगणैः ।। ४-१९-४ ।।

sanskrit

When Lord Viṣṇu appeared in the sacrificial arena, Lord Brahmā, Lord Śiva and all the chief predominating personalities of every planet, as well as their followers, came with Him. When He appeared on the scene, the residents of Gandharvaloka, the great sages, and the residents of Apsaroloka all praised Him. ।। 4-19-4 ।।

english translation

जब भगवान् विष्णु यज्ञस्थल में प्रकट हुए तो उनके साथ ब्रह्माजी, शिवजी तथा सभी लोकपाल एवं उनके अनुचर भी थे। जब वे वहाँ प्रकट हुए तो गन्धर्वलोक-निवासियों, ऋषियों तथा अप्सरा लोक के निवासियों सभी ने मिलकर प्रशंसा की। ।। ४-१९-४ ।।

सिद्धा विद्याधरा दैत्या दानवा गुह्यकादयः । सुनन्दनन्दप्रमुखाः पार्षदप्रवरा हरेः ।। ४-१९-५ ।।

sanskrit

The Lord was accompanied by the residents of Siddhaloka and Vidyādhara-loka, all the descendants of Diti, and the demons and the Yakṣas. He was also accompanied by His chief associates, headed by Sunanda and Nanda. ।। 4-19-5 ।।

english translation

भगवान् के साथ में सिद्धलोक तथा विद्याधर लोक के वासी, दिति की समस्त सन्तानें, असुर तथा यक्षगण थे। उनके साथ सुनन्द तथा नन्द इत्यादि उनके प्रमुख पार्षद भी थे। ।। ४-१९-५ ।।

siddhA vidyAdharA daityA dAnavA guhyakAdayaH | sunandanandapramukhAH pArSadapravarA hareH || 4-19-5 ||
