समां च कुरु मां राजन् देववृष्टं यथा पयः । अपर्तावपि भद्रं ते उपावर्तेत मे विभो ।। ४-१८-११ ।।

sanskrit

My dear King, may I inform you that you have to make the entire surface of the globe level. This will help me, even when the rainy season has ceased. Rainfall comes by the mercy of King Indra. Rainfall will remain on the surface of the globe, always keeping the earth moistened, and thus it will be auspicious for all kinds of production. ।। 4-18-11 ।।

english translation

हे राजन्, मैं आपको बता रही हूँ कि आपको समस्त भूमण्डल की सतह समतल बनानी होगी। वर्षा ऋतु न रहने पर भी इससे मुझे सहायता मिलेगी। राजा इन्द्र की कृपा से वर्षा होती है। इससे वर्षा का जल भूमण्डल पर टिका रहेगा जिससे पृथ्वी सदैव आर्द्र (नम) रहेगी और इस प्रकार से यह सभी तरह के उत्पादन के लिए शुभ होगा। ।। ४-१८-११ ।।

इति प्रियं हितं वाक्यं भुव आदाय भूपतिः । वत्सं कृत्वा मनुं पाणावदुहत्सकलौषधीः ।। ४-१८-१२ ।।

sanskrit

After hearing the auspicious and pleasing words of the planet earth, the King accepted them. He then transformed Svāyambhuva Manu into a calf and milked all the herbs and grains from the earth in the form of a cow, keeping them in his cupped hands. ।। 4-18-12 ।।

english translation

पृथ्वी के कल्याणकारी तथा प्रिय वचनों को राजा ने अंगीकार कर लिया। तब उन्होंने स्वायंभुव मनु को बछड़ा बनाया और गोरूप पृथ्वी से समस्त ओषधियों और अन्न का दोहन कर के उन्हें अपनी अंजुली में भर लिया। ।। ४-१८-१२ ।।

तथापरे च सर्वत्र सारमाददते बुधाः । ततोऽन्ये च यथाकामं दुदुहुः पृथुभाविताम् ।। ४-१८-१३ ।।

sanskrit

Others, who were as intelligent as King Pṛthu, also took the essence out of the earthly planet. Indeed, everyone took this opportunity to follow in the footsteps of King Pṛthu and get whatever he desired from the planet earth. ।। 4-18-13 ।।

english translation

अन्य लोगों ने, जो महाराज पृथु के ही समान बुद्धिमान थे, पृथ्वी में से सार निकाल लिया। निस्सन्देह, प्रत्येक व्यक्ति ने राजा पृथु के पद-चिह्नों का अनुसरण करते हुए इस अवसर का लाभ उठाया और पृथ्वी से अपनी मनोवाञ्छित वस्तुएँ प्राप्त कीं। ।। ४-१८-१३ ।।

ऋषयो दुदुहुर्देवीमिन्द्रियेष्वथ सत्तम । वत्सं बृहस्पतिं कृत्वा पयश्छन्दोमयं शुचि ।। ४-१८-१४ ।।

sanskrit

All the great sages transformed Bṛhaspati into a calf, and making the senses into a pot, they milked all kinds of Vedic knowledge to purify words, mind and hearing. ।। 4-18-14 ।।

english translation

समस्त ऋषियों ने बृहस्पति को बछड़ा बनाया और इन्द्रियों को दोहनी। उन्होंने शब्द, मन तथा श्रवण को पवित्र करनेवाले समस्त प्रकार के वैदिक ज्ञान को दुह लिया। ।। ४-१८-१४ ।।

कृत्वा वत्सं सुरगणा इन्द्रं सोममदूदुहन् । हिरण्मयेन पात्रेण वीर्यमोजो बलं पयः ।। ४-१८-१५ ।।

sanskrit

All the demigods made Indra, the King of heaven, into a calf, and from the earth they milked the beverage soma, which is nectar. Thus they became very powerful in mental speculation and bodily and sensual strength. ।। 4-18-15 ।।

english translation

समस्त देवताओं ने स्वर्ग के राजा इन्द्र को बछड़ा बनाया और उन्होंने पृथ्वी में से सोम रस अर्थात् अमृत दुह लिया। इस प्रकार वे मानसिक, शारीरिक तथा ऐन्द्रिय शक्ति में अत्यन्त बलशाली हो गये। ।। ४-१८-१५ ।।
