मैत्रेय उवाच अथ तस्य पुनर्विप्रैरपुत्रस्य महीपतेः । बाहुभ्यां मथ्यमानाभ्यां मिथुनं समपद्यत ।। ४-१५-१ ।।

sanskrit

The great sage Maitreya continued: My dear Vidura, thus the brāhmaṇas and the great sages again churned the two arms of King Vena’s dead body. As a result a male and female couple came out of his arms. ।। 4-15-1 ।।

english translation

मैत्रेय ऋषि ने आगे कहा : हे विदुर, इस प्रकार ब्राह्मण तथा ऋषियों ने राजा वेन के मृत शरीर कीदोनों बाहुओं का भी मंथन किया। फलस्वरूप उसकी बाँहों से एक स्त्री तथा एक पुरुष का जोड़ा उत्पन्न हुआ। ।। ४-१५-१ ।।

तद्दृष्ट्वा मिथुनं जातं ऋषयो ब्रह्मवादिनः । ऊचुः परमसन्तुष्टा विदित्वा भगवत्कलाम् ।। ४-१५-२ ।।

sanskrit

The great sages were highly learned in Vedic knowledge. When they saw the male and female born of the arms of Vena’s body, they were very pleased, for they could understand that the couple was an expansion of a plenary portion of Viṣṇu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. ।। 4-15-2 ।।

english translation

ऋषिगण वैदिक ज्ञान में पारंगत थे। जब उन्होंने वेन की बाहुओं से एक स्त्री तथा पुरुष को उत्पन्न देखा, तो वे अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हुए क्योंकि वे जान गये कि यह युगल (दम्पति) भगवान् विष्णु के पूर्णांश का विस्तार है। ।। ४-१५-२ ।।

ऋषय ऊचुः एष विष्णोर्भगवतः कला भुवनपालिनी । इयं च लक्ष्म्याः सम्भूतिः पुरुषस्यानपायिनी ।। ४-१५-३ ।।

sanskrit

The great sages said: The male is a plenary expansion of the power of Lord Viṣṇu, who maintains the entire universe, and the female is a plenary expansion of the goddess of fortune, who is never separated from the Lord. ।। 4-15-3 ।।

english translation

ऋषियों ने कहा : यह पुरुष तो सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्माण्ड का पालन करनेवाले भगवान् विष्णु की शक्ति का अंश है और यह स्त्री भगवान् विष्णु से कभी अलग न होनेवाली एवं सम्पत्ति की देवी, लक्ष्मी का अंश है। ।। ४-१५-३ ।।

RSaya UcuH eSa viSNorbhagavataH kalA bhuvanapAlinI | iyaM ca lakSmyAH sambhUtiH puruSasyAnapAyinI || 4-15-3 ||

अयं तु प्रथमो राज्ञां पुमान् प्रथयिता यशः । पृथुर्नाम महाराजो भविष्यति पृथुश्रवाः ।। ४-१५-४ ‌‌।।

sanskrit

Of the two, the male will be able to expand his reputation throughout the world. His name will be Pṛthu. Indeed, he will be the first among kings. ।। 4-15-4 ।।

english translation

इन दोनों में से, जो नर है, वह अपने यश को विश्व भर में फैला सकेगा। उसका नाम पृथु होगा। निस्सन्देह, वह राजाओं में सबसे पहला राजा होगा। ।। ४-१५-४ ।।

ayaM tu prathamo rAjJAM pumAn prathayitA yazaH | pRthurnAma mahArAjo bhaviSyati pRthuzravAH || 4-15-4 ‌‌||

इयं च सुदती देवी गुणभूषणभूषणा । अर्चिर्नाम वरारोहा पृथुमेवावरुन्धती ।। ४-१५-५ ।।

sanskrit

The female has such beautiful teeth and beautiful qualities that she will actually beautify the ornaments she wears. Her name will be Arci. In the future she will accept King Pṛthu as her husband. ।। 4-15-5 ।।

english translation

सुन्दर दाँतों वाली स्त्री उत्तम गुणों से युक्त होने के कारण पहने गये आभूषणों को भी विभूषित करनेवाली होगी। उसका नाम अर्चि होगा और भविष्य में वह राजा पृथु को अपना पति स्वीकार करेगी। ।। ४-१५-५ ।।
