तं त्वा गताहं शरणं शरण्यं स्वभृत्यसंसारतरोः कुठारम् । जिज्ञासयाहं प्रकृतेः पूरुषस्य नमामि सद्धर्मविदां वरिष्ठम् ॥ ३-२५-११ ॥
Devahūti continued: I have taken shelter of Your lotus feet because You are the only person of whom to take shelter. You are the ax which can cut the tree of material existence. I therefore offer my obeisances unto You, who are the greatest of all transcendentalists, and I inquire from You as to the relationship between man and woman and between spirit and matter. ॥ 3-25-11 ॥

देवहूति ने आगे कहा : मैंने आपके चरणकमलों की शरण ग्रहण की है, क्योंकि आप ही एकमात्र व्यक्ति हैं जिनकी शरण ग्रहण की जा सकती है। आप वह कुल्हाड़ी हैं जिससे संसार रूपी वृक्ष काटा जा सकता है। अत: मैं आपको नमस्कार करती हूँ, क्योंकि समस्त योगियों में आप महानतम हैं। मैं आपसे पुरुष तथा स्त्री और आत्मा तथा पदार्थ के सम्बन्ध के विषय में जानना चाहती हूँ। ॥ ३-२५-११ ॥

मैत्रेय उवाच इति स्वमातुर्निरवद्यमीप्सितं निशम्य पुंसामपवर्गवर्धनम् । धियाभिनन्द्यात्मवतां सतां गतिर्बभाष ईषत्स्मितशोभिताननः ॥ ३-२५-१२ ॥
Maitreya said: After hearing of His mother’s uncontaminated desire for transcendental realization, the Lord thanked her within Himself for her questions, and thus, His face smiling, He explained the path of the transcendentalists, who are interested in self-realization. ॥ 3-25-12 ॥

मैत्रेय ने कहा : दिव्य साक्षात्कार के लिए अपनी माता की कल्मषरहित इच्छा को सुनकर भगवान् ने मन-ही-मन उनके प्रश्नों के लिए धन्यवाद दिया और इस प्रकार मुस्कान-युत मुख से उन्होंने आत्म-साक्षात्कार में रुचि रखने वाले अध्यात्मवादियों के मार्ग की व्याख्या की। ॥ ३-२५-१२ ॥

श्रीभगवानुवाच योग आध्यात्मिकः पुंसां मतो निःश्रेयसाय मे । अत्यन्तोपरतिर्यत्र दुःखस्य च सुखस्य च ॥ ३-२५-१३ ॥
The Personality of Godhead answered: The yoga system which relates to the Lord and the individual soul, which is meant for the ultimate benefit of the living entity, and which causes detachment from all happiness and distress in the material world, is the highest yoga system. ॥ 3-25-13 ॥
english translation
भगवान् ने उत्तर दिया : जो योग पद्धति भगवान् तथा व्यक्तिगत जीवात्मा को जोड़ती है, जो जीवात्मा के चरम लाभ के लिए है और जो भौतिक जगत में समस्त सुखों तथा दुखों से विरक्ति उत्पन्न करती है, वही सर्वोच्च योग पद्धति है। ॥ ३-२५-१३ ॥

तमिमं ते प्रवक्ष्यामि यमवोचं पुरानघे । ऋषीणां श्रोतुकामानां योगं सर्वाङ्गनैपुणम् ॥ ३-२५-१४ ॥
O most pious mother, I shall now explain unto you the ancient yoga system, which I explained formerly to the great sages. It is serviceable and practical in every way. ॥ 3-25-14 ॥

हे परम पवित्र माता, अब मैं आपको वही प्राचीन योग पद्धति समझाऊँगा, जिसे मैंने पहले महान् ऋषियों को समझाया था। यही हर प्रकार से उपयोगी एवं व्यावहारिक है। ॥ ३-२५-१४ ॥

चेतः खल्वस्य बन्धाय मुक्तये चात्मनो मतम् । गुणेषु सक्तं बन्धाय रतं वा पुंसि मुक्तये ॥ ३-२५-१५ ॥
The stage in which the consciousness of the living entity is attracted by the three modes of material nature is called conditional life. But when that same consciousness is attached to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, one is situated in the consciousness of liberation. ॥ 3-25-15 ॥

जीवात्मा की चेतना जिस अवस्था में प्रकृति के तीन गुणों के द्वारा आकृष्ट होती है, वह बद्धजीवन कहलाती है। किन्तु जब वही चेतना श्रीभगवान् के प्रति आसक्त होती है, तो मनुष्य मोक्ष की चेतना में स्थित हो। ॥ ३-२५-१५ ॥
