तं चण्डशब्दं समुदीरयन्तं बलाहका अन्वभवन् करालाः । अक्षस्थविष्ठा मुमुचुस्तडिद्भिः स्वनन्त उच्चैरभिवर्षधाराः ।। १२-९-११ ।।

sanskrit

That wind created a terrible sound and brought in its wake fearsome clouds that were accompanied by lightning and roaring thunder and that poured down on all sides torrents of rain as heavy as wagon wheels. ।। 12-9-11 ।।

english translation

उस हवा ने एक भयानक ध्वनि पैदा की और अपने साथ डरावने बादल लाए, जिनके साथ बिजली और गड़गड़ाहट की गड़गड़ाहट हुई और सभी तरफ वैगन के पहियों के समान भारी बारिश हुई। ।। १२-९-११ ।।

ततो व्यदृश्यन्त चतुःसमुद्राः समन्ततः क्ष्मातलमाग्रसन्तः । समीरवेगोर्मिभिरुग्रनक्रमहाभयावर्तगभीरघोषाः ।। १२-९-१२ ।।

sanskrit

Then the four great oceans appeared on all sides, swallowing up the surface of the earth with their wind-tossed waves. In these oceans were terrible sea monsters, fearful whirlpools and ominous rumblings. ।। 12-9-12 ।।

english translation

तभी चारों ओर से चार विशाल महासागर प्रकट हुए, जो अपनी हवा से उठती लहरों से पृथ्वी की सतह को निगल रहे थे। इन महासागरों में भयानक समुद्री राक्षस, भयानक भँवर और अशुभ गड़गड़ाहट थी। ।। १२-९-१२ ।।

अन्तर्बहिश्चाद्भिरतिद्युभिः खरैः शतह्रदाभीरुपतापितं जगत् । चतुर्विधं वीक्ष्य सहात्मना मुनिर्जलाप्लुतां क्ष्मां विमनाः समत्रसत् ।। १२-९-१३ ।।

sanskrit

The sage saw all the inhabitants of the universe, including himself, tormented within and without by the harsh winds, the bolts of lightning, and the great waves rising beyond the sky. As the whole earth flooded, he grew perplexed and fearful. ।। 12-9-13 ।।

english translation

ऋषि ने अपने सहित ब्रह्माण्ड के सभी निवासियों को कठोर हवाओं, बिजली की चमक और आकाश से परे उठती विशाल लहरों से भीतर और बाहर पीड़ित देखा। जैसे ही सारी पृथ्वी जलमग्न हो गई, वह परेशान और भयभीत हो गया। ।। १२-९-१३ ।।

तस्यैवमुद्वीक्षत ऊर्मिभीषणः प्रभञ्जनाघूर्णितवार्महार्णवः । आपूर्यमाणो वरषद्भिरम्बुदैः क्ष्मामप्यधाद्द्वीपवर्षाद्रिभिः समम् ।। १२-९-१४ ।।

Even as Mārkaṇḍeya looked on, the rain pouring down from the clouds filled the ocean more and more until that great sea, its waters violently whipped into terrifying waves by hurricanes, covered up all the earth’s islands, mountains and continents. ।। 12-9-14 ।।

english translation

जैसे ही मार्कंडेय ने देखा, बादलों से हो रही बारिश ने समुद्र को और अधिक भर दिया, यहां तक ​​​​कि उस विशाल समुद्र तक, उसके पानी ने तूफानों द्वारा भयानक लहरों में बदल दिया, जिससे पृथ्वी के सभी द्वीप, पहाड़ और महाद्वीप ढक गए। ।। १२-९-१४ ।।

सक्ष्मान्तरिक्षं सदिवं सभागणं त्रैलोक्यमासीत्सह दिग्भिराप्लुतम् । स एक एवोर्वरितो महामुनिर्बभ्राम विक्षिप्य जटा जडान्धवत् ।। १२-९-१५ ।।

The water inundated the earth, outer space, heaven and the celestial region. Indeed, the entire expanse of the universe was flooded in all directions, and out of all its inhabitants only Mārkaṇḍeya remained. His matted hair scattered, the great sage wandered about alone in the water as if dumb and blind. ।। 12-9-15 ।।

english translation

जल ने पृथ्वी, बाह्य अंतरिक्ष, स्वर्ग और आकाशीय क्षेत्र को जलमग्न कर दिया। वास्तव में, ब्रह्मांड का संपूर्ण विस्तार सभी दिशाओं में बाढ़ आ गया था, और इसके सभी निवासियों में से केवल मार्कंडेय ही बचे थे। उनके उलझे हुए बाल बिखरे हुए थे, महान ऋषि पानी में अकेले घूम रहे थे जैसे कि गूंगे और अंधे हों। ।। १२-९-१५ ।।
