श्रीशुक उवाच कालस्ते परमाण्वादिर्द्विपरार्धावधिर्नृप । कथितो युगमानं च शृणु कल्पलयावपि ॥ १२-४-१ ॥
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: My dear King, I have already described to you the measurements of time, beginning from the smallest fraction measured by the movement of a single atom up to the total life span of Lord Brahmā. I have also discussed the measurement of the different millennia of universal history. Now hear about the time of Brahmā’s day and the process of annihilation. ॥ 12-4-1 ॥

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा: मेरे प्रिय राजन, मैं आपको पहले ही समय की माप का वर्णन कर चुका हूँ, एक परमाणु की गति से मापे गए सबसे छोटे अंश से लेकर भगवान ब्रह्मा के कुल जीवन काल तक। मैंने सार्वभौमिक इतिहास की विभिन्न सहस्राब्दियों के मापन पर भी चर्चा की है। अब ब्रह्मा के दिन के समय और विनाश की प्रक्रिया के बारे में सुनो। ॥ १२-४-१ ॥

चतुर्युगसहस्रं च ब्रह्मणो दिनमुच्यते । स कल्पो यत्र मनवश्चतुर्दश विशाम्पते ॥ १२-४-२ ॥
One thousand cycles of four ages constitute a single day of Brahmā, known as a kalpa. In that period, O King, fourteen Manus come and go. ॥ 12-4-2 ॥

चार युगों के एक हजार चक्रों से ब्रह्मा का एक दिन बनता है, जिसे एक कल्प के रूप में जाना जाता है। उस काल में, हे राजन, चौदह मनु आते और चले जाते हैं। ॥ १२-४-२ ॥

After one day of Brahmā, annihilation occurs during his night, which is of the same duration. At that time all the three planetary systems are subject to destruction. ॥ 12-4-3 ॥

एष नैमित्तिकः प्रोक्तः प्रलयो यत्र विश्वसृक् । शेतेऽनन्तासनो विश्वमात्मसात्कृत्य चात्मभूः ॥ १२-४-४ ॥
This is called the naimittika, or occasional, annihilation, during which the original creator, Lord Nārāyaṇa, lies down upon the bed of Ananta Śeṣa and absorbs the entire universe within Himself while Lord Brahmā sleeps. ॥ 12-4-4 ॥

When the two halves of the lifetime of Lord Brahmā, the most elevated created being, are complete, the seven basic elements of creation are annihilated. ॥ 12-4-5 ॥

जब सबसे श्रेष्ठ सृजित प्राणी, भगवान ब्रह्मा के जीवनकाल के दो भाग पूरे हो जाते हैं, तो सृष्टि के सात मूल तत्व नष्ट हो जाते हैं। ॥ १२-४-५ ॥
