एतेषां नामलिङ्गानां पुरुषाणां महात्मनाम् । कथामात्रावशिष्टानां कीर्तिरेव स्थिता भुवि ॥ १२-२-३६ ॥
These personalities, who were great souls, are now known only by their names. They exist only in accounts from the past, and only their fame remains on the earth. ॥ 12-2-36 ॥

महान आत्माएं रहीं ये हस्तियां अब सिर्फ अपने नाम से ही जानी जाती हैं। वे केवल अतीत के वृत्तांतों में ही विद्यमान हैं, और पृथ्वी पर केवल उनकी प्रसिद्धि ही शेष है। ॥ १२-२-३६ ॥

देवापिः शन्तनोर्भ्राता मरुश्चेक्ष्वाकुवंशजः । कलापग्राम आसाते महायोगबलान्वितौ ॥ १२-२-३७ ॥
Devāpi, the brother of Mahārāja Śāntanu, and Maru, the descendant of Ikṣvāku, both possess great mystic strength and are living even now in the village of Kalāpa. ॥ 12-2-37 ॥

महाराज शांतनु के भाई देवापि और इक्ष्वाकु के वंशज मरु, दोनों के पास महान रहस्यमय शक्ति है और वे अब भी कलापा गांव में रह रहे हैं। ॥ १२-२-३७ ॥

ताविहैत्य कलेरन्ते वासुदेवानुशिक्षितौ । वर्णाश्रमयुतं धर्मं पूर्ववत्प्रथयिष्यतः ॥ १२-२-३८ ॥
At the end of the Age of Kali, these two kings, having received instruction directly from the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vāsudeva, will return to human society and reestablish the eternal religion of man, characterized by the divisions of varṇa and āśrama, just as it was before. ॥ 12-2-38 ॥

कलियुग के अंत में, ये दोनों राजा, भगवान के परम व्यक्तित्व, वासुदेव से सीधे निर्देश प्राप्त करके, मानव समाज में लौट आएंगे और मनुष्य के शाश्वत धर्म को फिर से स्थापित करेंगे, जो कि वर्ण और आश्रम के विभाजन द्वारा विशेषता है, जैसे कि यह पहले था। ॥ १२-२-३८ ॥

The cycle of four ages — Satya, Tretā, Dvāpara and Kali — continues perpetually among living beings on this earth, repeating the same general sequence of events. ॥ 12-2-39 ॥

चार युगों - सत्य, त्रेता, द्वापर और कलि - का चक्र इस पृथ्वी पर जीवित प्राणियों के बीच घटनाओं के समान सामान्य क्रम को दोहराते हुए निरंतर जारी रहता है। ॥ १२-२-३९ ॥

राजन्नेते मया प्रोक्ता नरदेवास्तथापरे । भूमौ ममत्वं कृत्वान्ते हित्वेमां निधनं गताः ॥ १२-२-४० ॥
My dear King Parīkṣit, all these kings I have described, as well as all other human beings, come to this earth and stake their claims, but ultimately they all must give up this world and meet their destruction. ॥ 12-2-40 ॥

मेरे प्रिय राजा परीक्षित, ये सभी राजा जिनका मैंने वर्णन किया है, साथ ही अन्य सभी मनुष्य, इस धरती पर आते हैं और अपना दावा पेश करते हैं, लेकिन अंततः उन सभी को इस दुनिया को छोड़ना होगा और अपने विनाश का सामना करना पड़ेगा। ॥ १२-२-४० ॥
