तस्माद्गुरुं प्रपद्येत जिज्ञासुः श्रेय उत्तमम् । शाब्दे परे च निष्णातं ब्रह्मण्युपशमाश्रयम् ।। ११-३-२१ ।।

sanskrit

Therefore any person who seriously desires real happiness must seek a bona fide spiritual master and take shelter of him by initiation. The qualification of the bona fide guru is that he has realized the conclusions of the scriptures by deliberation and is able to convince others of these conclusions. Such great personalities, who have taken shelter of the Supreme Godhead, leaving aside all material considerations, should be understood to be bona fide spiritual masters. ।। 11-3-21 ।।

इसलिए कोई भी व्यक्ति जो गंभीरता से वास्तविक सुख की इच्छा रखता है, उसे एक प्रामाणिक आध्यात्मिक गुरु की तलाश करनी चाहिए और दीक्षा द्वारा उनकी शरण लेनी चाहिए। प्रामाणिक गुरु की योग्यता यह है कि वह विचार-विमर्श द्वारा शास्त्रों के निष्कर्षों को समझ लेता है और दूसरों को इन निष्कर्षों के बारे में समझाने में सक्षम होता है। ऐसे महान व्यक्तित्व, जिन्होंने सभी भौतिक विचारों को छोड़कर सर्वोच्च भगवान की शरण ले ली है, उन्हें प्रामाणिक आध्यात्मिक गुरु समझा जाना चाहिए। ।। ११-३-२१ ।।

Accepting the bona fide spiritual master as one’s life and soul and worshipable deity, the disciple should learn from him the process of pure devotional service. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, the soul of all souls, is inclined to give Himself to His pure devotees. Therefore, the disciple should learn from the spiritual master to serve the Lord without duplicity and in such a faithful and favorable way that the Supreme Lord, being satisfied, will offer Himself to the faithful disciple. ।। 11-3-22 ।।

प्रामाणिक आध्यात्मिक गुरु को अपने जीवन, आत्मा और पूजनीय देवता के रूप में स्वीकार करते हुए, शिष्य को उनसे शुद्ध भक्ति सेवा की प्रक्रिया सीखनी चाहिए। भगवान हरि, सभी आत्माओं की आत्मा, स्वयं को अपने शुद्ध भक्तों को देने के इच्छुक हैं। इसलिए, शिष्य को आध्यात्मिक गुरु से बिना किसी कपट के और इतने वफादार और अनुकूल तरीके से भगवान की सेवा करना सीखना चाहिए कि सर्वोच्च भगवान संतुष्ट होकर, खुद को वफादार शिष्य को समर्पित कर दें। ।। ११-३-२२ ।।

A sincere disciple should learn to dissociate the mind from everything material and positively cultivate association with his spiritual master and other saintly devotees. He should be merciful to those in an inferior position to him, cultivate friendship with those on an equal level and meekly serve those in a higher spiritual position. Thus he should learn to deal properly with all living beings. ।। 11-3-23 ।।

एक ईमानदार शिष्य को हर भौतिक चीज़ से मन को अलग करना सीखना चाहिए और अपने आध्यात्मिक गुरु और अन्य संत भक्तों के साथ सकारात्मक रूप से जुड़ना चाहिए। उसे अपने से निम्न स्थिति वाले लोगों के प्रति दयालु होना चाहिए, समान स्तर के लोगों के साथ मित्रता विकसित करनी चाहिए और उच्च आध्यात्मिक स्थिति वाले लोगों की नम्रतापूर्वक सेवा करनी चाहिए। अतः उसे सभी प्राणियों के साथ उचित व्यवहार करना सीखना चाहिए। ।। ११-३-२३ ।।

To serve the spiritual master the disciple should learn cleanliness, austerity, tolerance, silence, study of Vedic knowledge, simplicity, celibacy, nonviolence, and equanimity in the face of material dualities such as heat and cold, happiness and distress. ।। 11-3-24 ।।

आध्यात्मिक गुरु की सेवा करने के लिए शिष्य को स्वच्छता, तपस्या, सहनशीलता, मौन, वैदिक ज्ञान का अध्ययन, सादगी, ब्रह्मचर्य, अहिंसा और गर्मी और सर्दी, खुशी और संकट जैसे भौतिक द्वंद्वों के सामने समभाव सीखना चाहिए। ।। ११-३-२४ ।।

One should practice meditation by constantly seeing oneself to be an eternal cognizant spirit soul and seeing the Lord to be the absolute controller of everything. To increase one’s meditation, one should live in a secluded place and give up false attachment to one’s home and household paraphernalia. Giving up the decorations of the temporary material body, one should dress himself with scraps of cloth found in rejected places, or with the bark of trees. In this way one should learn to be satisfied in any material situation. ।। 11-3-25 ।।

व्यक्ति को निरंतर स्वयं को एक शाश्वत ज्ञानी आत्मा के रूप में और भगवान को हर चीज का पूर्ण नियंत्रक मानते हुए ध्यान का अभ्यास करना चाहिए। अपने ध्यान को बढ़ाने के लिए व्यक्ति को एकांत स्थान पर रहना चाहिए और अपने घर और गृहस्थी के प्रति मिथ्या मोह का त्याग करना चाहिए। अस्थायी भौतिक शरीर की सजावट को त्यागकर, मनुष्य को अस्वीकृत स्थानों पर पाए जाने वाले कपड़े के टुकड़ों, या पेड़ों की छाल से खुद को तैयार करना चाहिए। इस प्रकार व्यक्ति को किसी भी भौतिक परिस्थिति में संतुष्ट रहना सीखना चाहिए। ।। ११-३-२५ ।।
