एवं बृहद्व्रतधरो ब्राह्मणोऽग्निरिव ज्वलन् । मद्भक्तस्तीव्रतपसा दग्धकर्माशयोऽमलः ।। ११-१७-३६ ।।

sanskrit

A brāhmaṇa observing the great vow of celibacy becomes brilliant like fire and by serious austerity burns to ashes the propensity to perform material activities. Free from the contamination of material desire, he becomes My devotee. ।। 11-17-36 ।।

english translation

ब्रह्मचर्य के महान व्रत का पालन करने वाला ब्राह्मण अग्नि के समान तेजस्वी हो जाता है और गंभीर तपस्या से भौतिक गतिविधियों को करने की प्रवृत्ति को जलाकर राख कर देता है। वह भौतिक इच्छा के संदूषण से मुक्त होकर मेरा भक्त बन जाता है। ।। ११-१७-३६ ।।

अथानन्तरमावेक्ष्यन् यथा जिज्ञासितागमः । गुरवे दक्षिणां दत्त्वा स्नायाद्गुर्वनुमोदितः ।। ११-१७-३७ ।।

sanskrit

A brahmacārī who has completed his Vedic education and desires to enter household life should offer proper remuneration to the spiritual master, bathe, cut his hair, put on proper clothes, and so on. Then, taking permission from the guru, he should go back to his home. ।। 11-17-37 ।।

english translation

एक ब्रह्मचारी जिसने अपनी वैदिक शिक्षा पूरी कर ली है और गृहस्थ जीवन में प्रवेश करने की इच्छा रखता है, उसे आध्यात्मिक गुरु को उचित पारिश्रमिक देना चाहिए, स्नान करना चाहिए, अपने बाल कटवाने चाहिए, उचित कपड़े पहनने चाहिए, इत्यादि। फिर गुरु से आज्ञा लेकर अपने घर लौट जाना चाहिए। ।। ११-१७-३७ ।।

sanskrit

A brahmacārī desiring to fulfill his material desires should live at home with his family, and a householder who is eager to purify his consciousness should enter the forest, whereas a purified brāhmaṇa should accept the renounced order of life. One who is not surrendered to Me should move progressively from one āśrama to another, never acting otherwise. ।। 11-17-38 ।।

english translation

अपनी भौतिक इच्छाओं को पूरा करने की इच्छा रखने वाले ब्रह्मचारी को अपने परिवार के साथ घर पर रहना चाहिए, और एक गृहस्थ जो अपनी चेतना को शुद्ध करने के लिए उत्सुक है, उसे जंगल में प्रवेश करना चाहिए, जबकि एक शुद्ध ब्राह्मण को जीवन का त्याग स्वीकार करना चाहिए। जो मेरे प्रति समर्पित नहीं है, उसे धीरे-धीरे एक आश्रम से दूसरे आश्रम में जाना चाहिए, कभी भी अन्यथा व्यवहार नहीं करना चाहिए। ।। ११-१७-३८ ।।

गृहार्थी सदृशीं भार्यामुद्वहेदजुगुप्सिताम् । यवीयसीं तु वयसा तां सवर्णामनुक्रमात् ।। ११-१७-३९ ।।

sanskrit

One who desires to establish family life should marry a wife of his own caste, who is beyond reproach and younger in age. If one desires to accept many wives he must marry them after the first marriage, and each wife should be of a successively lower caste. ।। 11-17-39 ।।

english translation

जो व्यक्ति पारिवारिक जीवन स्थापित करना चाहता है, उसे अपनी ही जाति की पत्नी से विवाह करना चाहिए, जो निंदा से परे हो और उम्र में छोटी हो। यदि कोई कई पत्नियाँ स्वीकार करना चाहता है तो उसे पहली शादी के बाद उनसे शादी करनी होगी, और प्रत्येक पत्नी क्रमिक रूप से निचली जाति की होनी चाहिए। ।। ११-१७-३९ ।।

इज्याध्ययनदानानि सर्वेषां च द्विजन्मनाम् । प्रतिग्रहोऽध्यापनं च ब्राह्मणस्यैव याजनम् ।। ११-१७-४० ।।

sanskrit

All twice-born men — brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas and vaiśyas — must perform sacrifice, study the Vedic literature and give charity. Only the brāhmaṇas, however, accept charity, teach the Vedic knowledge and perform sacrifice on behalf of others. ।। 11-17-40 ।।

english translation

सभी द्विज पुरुषों - ब्राह्मण, क्षत्रिय और वैश्य - को यज्ञ करना चाहिए, वैदिक साहित्य का अध्ययन करना चाहिए और दान देना चाहिए। हालाँकि, केवल ब्राह्मण ही दान स्वीकार करते हैं, वैदिक ज्ञान सिखाते हैं और दूसरों के लिए यज्ञ करते हैं। ।। ११-१७-४० ।।
