त्वमात्मनाऽऽत्मानमवेह्यमोघदृक्परस्यपुंसः परमात्मनः कलाम् । अजं प्रजातं जगतः शिवाय तन्महानुभावाभ्युदयोऽधिगण्यताम् ।। १-५-२१ ।।

sanskrit

Your Goodness has perfect vision. You yourself can know the Supersoul Personality of Godhead because you are present as the plenary portion of the Lord. Although you are birthless, you have appeared on this earth for the well-being of all people. Please, therefore, describe the transcendental pastimes of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa more vividly. ।। 1-5-21 ।।

english translation

तुममें पूर्ण दृष्टि है। तुम पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् को जान सकते हो, क्योंकि तुम भगवान् के अंश के रूप में विद्यमान हो। यद्यपि तुम अजन्मा हो, लेकिन समस्त लोगों के कल्याण हेतु इस पृथ्वी पर प्रकट हुए हो। अत: भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण की लीलाओं का अधिक विस्तार से वर्णन करो। ।। १-५-२१ ।।

Learned circles have positively concluded that the infallible purpose of the advancement of knowledge, namely austerities, study of the Vedas, sacrifice, chanting of hymns and charity, culminates in the transcendental descriptions of the Lord, who is defined in choice poetry. ।। 1-5-22 ।।

english translation

विद्वन्मण्डली ने यह स्पष्ट निष्कर्ष निकाला है कि तपस्या, वेदाध्ययन, यज्ञ, दान तथा स्तुति-जप का अचूक प्रयोजन (उद्देश्य) उत्तमश्लोक भगवान् की दिव्य लीलाओं के वर्णन में जाकर समाप्त होता है। ।। १-५-२२ ।।

O Muni, in the last millennium I was born as the son of a certain maidservant engaged in the service of brāhmaṇas who were following the principles of Vedānta. When they were living together during the four months of the rainy season, I was engaged in their personal service. ।। 1-5-23 ।।

english translation

हे मुनि, पिछले कल्प में मैं किसी दासी के पुत्र रूप में उत्पन्न हुआ, जो वेदान्त सिद्धान्तों के अनुयायी ब्राह्मणों की सेवा करती थी। जब वे लोग वर्षा ऋतु के चातुर्मास में साथ-साथ रहते थे, तो मैं उनकी सेवा टहल (व्यक्तिगत सेवा) किया करता था। ।। १-५-२३ ।।

Although they were impartial by nature, those followers of the Vedānta blessed me with their causeless mercy. As far as I was concerned, I was self-controlled and had no attachment for sports, even though I was a boy. In addition, I was not naughty, and I did not speak more than required. ।। 1-5-24 ।।

english translation

यद्यपि वे स्वभाव से निष्पक्ष थे, किन्तु उन वेदान्त के अनुयायिओं ने मुझ पर अहैतुकी कृपा की। जहाँ तक मेरी बात थी, मैं इन्द्रियजित था और बालक होने पर भी खेलकूद से अनासक्त था। साथ ही, मैं चपल न था और कभी भी जरूरत से ज्यादा बोलता नहीं था (मितभाषी था)। ।। १-५-२४ ।।

Once only, by their permission, I took the remnants of their food, and by so doing all my sins were at once eradicated. Thus being engaged, I became purified in heart, and at that time the very nature of the transcendentalist became attractive to me. ।। 1-5-25 ।।

उनकी अनुमति से मैं केवल एक बार उनकी जूठन खाता था और ऐसा करने से मेरे सारे पाप तुरन्त ही नष्ट हो गये। इस प्रकार सेवा में लगे रहने से मेरा हृदय शुद्ध हो गया और तब वेदान्तियों का स्वभाव मेरे लिए अत्यन्त आकर्षक बन गया। ।। १-५-२५ ।।
