इदंहिपुंसस्तपसः श्रुतस्यवास्विष्टस्य सूक्तस्य च बुद्धिदत्तयोः । अविच्युतोऽर्थः कविभिर्निरूपितोयदुत्तमश्लोकगुणानुवर्णनम् ।। १-५-२२ ।।

Learned circles have positively concluded that the infallible purpose of the advancement of knowledge, namely austerities, study of the Vedas, sacrifice, chanting of hymns and charity, culminates in the transcendental descriptions of the Lord, who is defined in choice poetry. ।। 1-5-22 ।।

english translation

विद्वन्मण्डली ने यह स्पष्ट निष्कर्ष निकाला है कि तपस्या, वेदाध्ययन, यज्ञ, दान तथा स्तुति-जप का अचूक प्रयोजन (उद्देश्य) उत्तमश्लोक भगवान् की दिव्य लीलाओं के वर्णन में जाकर समाप्त होता है। ।। १-५-२२ ।।
