सम्पूर्णे सप्तमे वर्षे मित्रावरुणसंज्ञकौ ॥ मुनी तस्याश्रमं प्राप्तौ द्रष्टुं मां चाज्ञया विभोः ॥ ५१॥
When I completed the age of seven, the two sages Mitra and Varuṇa came to the hermitage at the bidding of the lord in order to see me.
english translation
सत्कृतौ मुनिना तेन सूपविष्टो महामुनी ॥ ऊचतुश्च महात्मानौ मां निरीक्ष्य मुहुर्मुहुः॥ ५२॥
Duly welcomed by the sage and seated on their seats, the great sages of noble soul looked at me again and again and said.
english translation
मित्रावरुणावूचतुः॥ तात नंदीस्तवाल्पायुः सर्वशास्त्रार्थपारगः॥ न दृष्टमेव चापश्यं ह्यायुर्वर्षादतः परम् ॥ ५३ ॥
Mitra and Varuṇa said:— O dear sage, although he has mastered the sacred lore, your son Nandin will be short-lived I do not see his life for more than a year from now.
english translation
विप्रयोरित्युक्तवतोः शिलादः पुत्रवत्सलः ॥ तमालिङ्ग्य च दुःखार्त्तो रुरोदातीव विस्वरम् ॥ ५४ ॥
When the brahmins said this, Śilāda fond of his son was much distressed. He lamented loudly after embracing me.
english translation
मृतवत्पतितं दृष्ट्वा पितरं च पितामहम् ॥ प्रत्यवोचत्प्रसन्नात्मा स्मृत्वा शिवपदाम्बुजम् ॥ ५५ ॥
On seeing my father and grand-father fallen like a dead body I spoke after remembering the lotus-like feet of Śiva with a delightful mind.
