नन्दीश्वर उवाच॥ पिप्पलादाख्यपरममवतारं महेशितुः ॥ शृणु प्राज्ञ महाप्रीत्या भक्तिवर्धनमुत्तमम्॥ १॥
Nandīśvara said:— O intelligent one, listen with very great pleasure to the Pippalāda incarnation of Śiva that is excellent and that inspires devotion.
english translation
यः पुरा गदितो विप्रो दधीचिर्मुनिसत्तमः ॥ महाशैवस्सुप्रतापी च्यावनिर्भृगुवंशजः॥ २॥
Formerly there was a great brahmin and an excellent sage Dadhīci. He was born of Cyavana of Bhṛgu family. He was a great devotee of Śiva and very powerful.
english translation
क्षुवेण सह संग्रामे येन विष्णुः पराजितः॥ सनिर्जरोऽथ संशप्तो महेश्वरसहायिना॥ ३॥
In the fight with Kṣuva, Viṣṇu and other gods were defeated by this sage who had the support of Śiva and they were cursed.

तस्य पत्नी महाभागा सुवर्चा नामनामतः॥ महापतिव्रता साध्वी यया शप्ता दिवौकसः ॥ ४॥
He had a fortunate wife Suvarcā, who was very noble and chaste. The gods were cursed by her.

तस्मात्तस्यां महादेवो नानालीलाविशारदः ॥ प्रादुर्बभूव तेजस्वी पिप्पलादेति नामतः ॥ ५॥
The great lord, an expert in different kinds of sports and extremely brilliant was born of her in the name of Pippalāda.
