नन्दीश्वर उवाच ॥ शृणु त्वं ब्रह्मपुत्राद्यावतारं परमेशितुः ॥ अवधूतेश्वराह्वं वै शक्रगर्वापहारकम् ॥ १ ॥
Nandīśvara said:— O son of Brahmā, listen to the first incarnation of the great lord, named Avadhūteśvara, who dispelled the arrogance of Indra.
english translation
शक्रः पुरा हि सगुरुः सर्वदेवसमन्वितः ॥ दर्शनं कर्तुमीशस्य कैलासमगमन्मुने ॥ २ ॥
O sage, formerly Indra accompanied by Bṛhaspati and the other gods went to Kailāsa in order to see Śiva.
english translation
अथ गुर्विन्द्रयोर्ज्ञात्वागमनं शंकरस्तयोः ॥ परीक्षितुं च तद्भावं स्वदर्शनरतात्मनोः ॥ ३ ॥
Then Lord Śiva learned of the arrival of Guru and Indra and to examine that nature of the self-seeing self.
english translation
अवधूतस्वरूपोऽभून्नानालीलाकरः प्रभुः ॥ दिगंबरो महाभीमो ज्वलदग्निसमप्रभः ॥ ४ ॥
The Lord became the form of the Avadhuta and performed various pastimes. He was digambara very frightening and radiant like blazing fire.
english translation
सोऽवधूतस्वरूपो हि मार्गमारुद्ध्य सद्गतिः ॥ लंबमानपटः शंभुरतिष्ठच्छोभिताकृतिः ॥ ५॥
The Avadhūta, the goal of the good, blocked their way. He stood there with matted hair hanging loosely. and the whole feature shining brilliantly.
