धर्मः कुलोचितो नष्टो मन्दभाग्यस्य दुर्मतेः ॥ नूनं मे सम्पदो राज्यमायुष्यं क्षयमेष्यति ॥ ३१ ॥
The hereditary virtue has been smothered. I am unfortunate and confused in mind. Certainly my riches, my kingdom, my longevity will dwindle.
english translation
dharmaH kulocito naSTo mandabhAgyasya durmateH ॥ nUnaM me sampado rAjyamAyuSyaM kSayameSyati ॥ 31 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअद्य चैनं द्विजन्मानं हतदारं शुचार्दितम् ॥ हतशोकं करिष्यामि दत्त्वा प्राणानतिप्रियान् ॥ ३२॥
By surrendering my own life,, lovable though it is, I shall make this brahmin free from grief, this brahmin whose wife has been seized by the tiger and who is pained extremely.”
english translation
adya cainaM dvijanmAnaM hatadAraM zucArditam ॥ hatazokaM kariSyAmi dattvA prANAnatipriyAn ॥ 32॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइति निश्चित्य मनसा स भद्रायुर्नृपोत्तमः ॥ पतित्वा पादयोस्तस्य बभाषे परिसान्त्वयन्॥ ३३ ॥
Having decided thus in his mind that excellent king Bhadrāyu fell at his feet and spoke to him in conciliatory tone.
english translation
iti nizcitya manasA sa bhadrAyurnRpottamaH ॥ patitvA pAdayostasya babhASe parisAntvayan॥ 33 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभद्रायुरुवाच ॥ कृपां कृत्वा मयि ब्रह्मन् क्षत्रबन्धौ हतौजसि ॥ शोकन्त्यज महाप्राज्ञ दास्याम्यद्य तु वाञ्छितम् ॥ ३४ ॥
Bhadrāyu said:— O Brahmin, I am a base Kṣatriya bereft of strength. You take pity on me. O intelligent one, do not grieve. I shall give you what you desire.
english translation
bhadrAyuruvAca ॥ kRpAM kRtvA mayi brahman kSatrabandhau hataujasi ॥ zokantyaja mahAprAjJa dAsyAmyadya tu vAJchitam ॥ 34 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइदं राज्यमियं राज्ञी ममेदञ्च कलेवरम् ॥ त्वदधीनमिदं सर्वं किन्तेऽभिलषितं वरम् ॥ ३५ ॥
This kingdom, this queen, this body of mine, everything is subservient to you. What is the greatest thing that you desire?
english translation
idaM rAjyamiyaM rAjJI mamedaJca kalevaram ॥ tvadadhInamidaM sarvaM kinte'bhilaSitaM varam ॥ 35 ॥
